At least 36 prisoners were killed when they attempted to escape from a prison transport vehicle that was ferrying them from a pre-detention facility to the large Abu Zaabal penitentiary, Egypt's state-run television station reported.

The prisoners were among a group of more than 600 supporters of ousted President Mohammed Morsi who had been arrested during continuing clashes over the past four days, said Gen. Hani Abdullatif, an interior minister spokesman.

Mr. Abdullatif said the prisoners died from asphyxiation after officers fired tear gas through the windows of the crowded prison transfer van that the detainees had hijacked.

The attempted prison break started when detainees lured a corrections driver into the prisoners' cab by telling him that one of the detainees was injured, said Mr. Abdellatif.

Pretty soon, the casual Muslim Brotherhood supporters are going to figure out that dying for the cause isn’t quite so attractive, especially when they realize the leaders have no intention of willingly dying themselves.

“The attempted prison break started when detainees lured a corrections driver into the prisoners’ cab by telling him that one of the detainees was injured”

Jeez, don’t they watch movies in Egypt? That’s the oldest trick in the book.

So all 36 prisoners died of suffocation due to teargas, and the driver who was in the same compartment didn’t?

Interesting...

Fine by me. The fewer MB supporters around, the better. It’s a dog eat dog world. The MB rioters would kill others at the drop of a hat. They should expect to die just as easily.

They went from pre-detention to post-deletion.

My give a fk is a broken....

Still, I’m pissed that my government caused this.

It was unneccessary and we could have worked with Mubarak and regime toward peaceful transition to democracy.

The Moslem Brotherhood is a metastasizing cancer. We are going to have work for years excising them or irradiating them.

Can’t even call this is a joke.

It’s a travesty we foisted on the world.

I think they were all wearing blue shirts like the 4th man in a landing party on Star Trek.

Which brings to mind:

I saw Airplane II last night and after 30 years found it to be even funnier, as I am older understand the context for some of the jokes I hadn’t understood years ago.

Shatner played a significant role toward the end and was a riot!!!
