Republican establishment strategist Mike Murphy, who is close to Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) and Mitt Romney and favors candidates like them, slammed Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), saying he would be a disaster in a general election like George McGovern was for Democrats in 1972.
Murphy told National Review that though Cruz may win the nomination if he chooses to run because he appeals so strongly to conservatives, but he would not win a general election. In Murphy's eyes, conservatives that support Cruz are not "regular Republicans" like McCain and Romney, both of whom lost general elections.

During the 2012 election cycle, Murphy went out of his way to label conservative candidates who threatened Romney as the Republican versions of McGovern, doing so on programs like NBC's Meet The Press.

I honestly believe that if either McCain or Romney had somehow been elected, we would already have amnesty, no matter what Cruz did or said. This would have allowed the dems to prepare for permanent majority. With either of them as president, it would have been an absolute RINO stampede with the dems along for the ride. The only ones trampled would have been conservatives and their principles.
Unfortunately too many conservatives have the naive idea that RINOs work with us. They hate us. They are ashamed of us and our principles, beliefs and ideas. They don’t know why we can’t be more like the dems’ constituency — uninformed and always ready to vote straight party line, even when that vote is harmful to their held beliefs.
We don’t have a two party system anymore. There is only one party —socialist. Conservatives need to come into the 21st century and open their eyes.
Pretty much sums up Murphy and the GOP-e. Loser.
Go, Cruz, GO!!
Murphy really thinks true conservatives are a minority in this country. The polls say otherwise.
Healthwise, I’m stuck here but I’d be looking at Japan if I were to go anywhere. Nowhere left sane. We were it and we threw it away rather than telling the liberals to pound salt. Compromise killed us and it was a suicide.
TED CRUZ!
He sounds like the Joe Trippe of the GOP Party.

Mike Murphy-saboteurs are rife within the Republican Party during every election period. Their "strategy" is obviously dividing & conquering the GOP through lies, propaganda and cannibalism. ORDERED STRAIGHT FROM THE TREASONOUS RNC/GOPe.
Notice the Democrat-Communist Party never has this problem with *their* "Strategists"?? The Dems NEVER find themselves caught off-guard, shocked with the actually ideoligy of either their Congressional electees or SCOTUS appointees; When have they *ever* uttered, "HUH?? THAT GUY WE ELECTED IS ACTUALLY A CONSERVATIVE AND FAKE-LIBERAL??"
A formula for DOUBLE-AGENT, DOUBLE-CROSSERS (just like McCain, Boehner, McConnell, etal.)
Oh. And your guy wasn’t??
God help us, we do not have a man/women of principle and strength TO BE THE PRINCIPAL LEADER FOR THE REPUBLICANS.
Sarah, CRUZ (IT IS TOO SOON FOR HIM), RAND, TOO SOON FOR HIM TOO. THEY BOTH HAVE CHARACTER AND FIGHT IN THEM WHICH IS ABSOLLUTELY NECESSARY. Sarah is already ready, if she is wanting the job!!!
Honestly it seems since Clinton the Republican Party does not want to in power. They can not take the HEAT.!!!
Mark
Yeah, sure. If it hadnt been for McCain and Romney, the Republicans probably would have lost two elections.
LoL....
After McCain campaigned for obama in 2008, and Romney refused to campaign for himself in 2012, one has to wonder how Murphy defines “catastrophe.”
In Murphy's eyes, he would be out of a job because no real conservative candidate would hire him for campaign consulting.
A third party has just as much chance, or more, of winning than a Republican Party with their RINO candidate because those of us who stayed home last election will do the same this next time. NO MORE east coast people for me.
The ones the RINOs rip into the most are the ones we have to look at. Go Ted!
MM STFU
I still want Sarah
After McCain and Romney how could the GOP do worse?
Oh yea, how can we forget Dole!
