As a matter of fact, my family tree is so messed up, I entered into a genealogy site and it knocked the website down for two days.

This happened a lot back in the 19th century pre civil war. Our ancestors looked around at that years’ crop of cousins and the chaos of the civil war and moved west in the mid to late 19th century. Mr. Mercat is related to Mary Todd Lincoln whose parents were cousins and so on going back another two or three generations. He’s pretty sane though so I’m guessing that it all got sorted out.

It is early, but I think that will be the reply of the day!

“As a matter of fact, my family tree is so messed up, I entered into a genealogy site and it knocked the website down for two days.....”

Reminds me of an incident that my cousin told about his mother’s family tree. It seems his ancestor married twice with children from both marriages. Then several of those children married into another family. In the next generation there are some more intermarriages - although none were consanguinous. So my cousin is trying to determine what his degree of kinship is with another family genealogist. This was about eight years ago with the Family Tree Maker software. He clicked on the link, entered the name of his new “cousin”, and then waited, and then he waited some more........ Finally the screen lit up with this message: “I’m still thinking.”
