TRENTON, N.J. Republican Gov. Chris Christie on Friday vetoed a ban on .50-caliber rifles that was vigorously opposed by firearms rights advocates and gutted a proposal overhauling the states gun permit law.
Christie said the permit changes adopted by lawmakers were impractical because they rely on technology that hasnt been developed.
None of the technology necessary for this system exists.
the smartcard called for by this bill cannot be implemented now or any time in the foreseeable future, Christie said in his conditional veto message.

Once in a while, even "Kripsy Kreme" gets one right.
Doesn’t matter. He signed the other ten and in doing so shot himself in the foot as far as 2016 is concerned. Unless he’s running on the dem ticket.
Pinging “Gun Talk” List...
Is there a “Bang List” to Ping?
These 10 bills:
GOPe: Marco-Christie
or
lib-dem: Clintoon-Christie
Oooooh, he must be a staunch 2A guy.
NOT.
The chubby kid brings a new toy to show kids on the playground hoping for new friends. Too bad, Lumpy, you’re still a jerk.
He may as well as signed it; he signed every other one put on his desk.
I will not vote for this POS no matter what. I have held my nose and voted before, and probably will again at some point, but NEVER for this POS lardass.
He finds more faults with fellow republicans than obama!
Thanks carriage_hill.
I moved from NJ 25yrs ago to PA; wouldn’t vote for this POS either.
MmmmKay. I bet that went well.
Did he also demonstrate its 5k+ price tag? Did they reference ANY crime that’s been committed with a .50? How I loathe these people.
No sale!
Sorry, no, he WOULD have signed this bill...if the technology existed. Though, I’m surprised he let that get in the way of his other anti-2nd push.
What an a-hole and schmuck:
These are military weapons designed and manufactured to destroy material targets such as chemical plants, refineries, chemical and rail tanks and passenger aircraft, targets that abound in New Jersey, he said. A potential attack with a .50-caliber weapon could have a catastrophic environmental impact in the Garden State.
Neither my Barrett nor Beowulf has destroyed any of the above.
LOL. KK “leaning@ to the Right. Rino Fail !!!
“Once in a while, even “Kripsy Kreme” gets one right. “
He’s running for president and has to do this or he loses the R party. Look at his actual record when he wasn’t pretending to be conservative. He is one of the most anti-gun governors in the US.
Anyone tried firing a rifle in NJ recently? This is the state which for as long ago as 50 years banned the use of rifles for deer hunting, limiting it to the use of shotguns with no bigger shot than 00 and no rifle slugs either. I gather there has been some loosening of those laws but that is what was in effect when I hunted there. Lastly, for “varmit” season, one needed a special rifle permit to hunt and at that time they were not issuing new ones and grandfathered in those who had them. I think that may have changed for the better too as this is from my experience. Anyway, firing any caliber with a range of a mile or more is dangerous to the population now stacked up one on top of another IMO and why I left long ago. The main issue addressed by Christie’s veto was more significant and I am happy he did it.
Betcha he's a "lifetime NRA member," like Romney, and maybe even goes to buy a, "huntin' license," like Kerry, in the lead up to 2016.
He signed ten anti Second Amendment bills and he is still a fat assed socialist pig.
