I am wishing very strongly that someone, anyone will find an inexpensive way for a DIY guy to make his own butanol for less than $1 per gallon.
This can already be done with bio-diesel and I’m looking into that. I already have a line on the processing equipment (couple grand). I just need to 1) be able to grow enough algae to produce the volume that I need and 2) switch all the cars over to run diesel (there are a couple of nice used Mercedes 300s on the local market).
And now for some VERY DRY Martinis!
Is algae the most viable? In the South we have kudzu and switchgrass in abundance. Also wood chip cellulose from wood mills. But I’m thinking in terms of ethanol instead of the bio-diesel angle. Yeah, bio-diesel does sound like a better more flexible fuel way to go. I just don’t know that much about it.
LOL yeah if someone could figure out how to turn kudzu into fuel, they would be rich and fast.
They could even lable them “Heart Healthy.”
They are hugely important. Pretty much every bottle of medication (both prescription and "over the counter") contains a packet of dessicant. I wear hearing aids, at store them in a container with dessicant while sleeping to reduce moisture induced corrosion of the electronics.
People who store their guns in plastic tubes are warned to drop in some packets of dessicant to prevent rust..... :^).
And many, many, MANY other uses.
The really interesting thing about this stuff is that it can be regenerated at a quite low temperature.
Yeah, but butanol is a direct drop-in replacement for gasoline. No engine or fuel-train mods needed to run your car on it. And yes, there is a lot of research ongoing to see if it can be produced economically by fermentation processes.
