Can Chinas New Strategic Bomber Reach Hawaii?
The Peoples Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) took delivery of 15 of Chinas new Xian H-6K strategic bombers, Janes Defence Weekly reported back in June. This report has now seemingly been confirmed by Chinese state-run media outlets, which noted that Janes Defence was the first media outlet to confirm that the H-6K had formally entered active service.
The H-6K nuclear-capable bomber is an upgraded version of the H-6 bomber, which is a locally built version of the Russian Tupolev Tu-16 Badger that Moscow first deployed during the 1950s. The PLAAF first received a TU-16 bomber from the Soviet Union in 1958 and has been modifying it ever since.
According to Chinas media, the H-6K is a medium-sized craft designed for long-range attacks, stand-off attacks and large-area air patrol. Unlike its predecessor, the H-6K can carry cruise missiles under its wings. The H-6K also maneuvers more deftly than the H-6 and requires a smaller crew to operate.
One of the biggest improvements made to the H-6K is its engine. The new strategic bomber reportedly uses a reverse engineered Russian NPO Saturn D-30KP turbofan engine, which boosts its combat range to 3,500 km. It also packs both the YJ-12 Eagle Strike supersonic anti-ship missile, which has a range of around 400 km, as well as up to six nuclear-capable Changjian-10K (CJ-10k) air-launched cruise missiles, which reportedly each have a range of 1,500-2,000 km.
The CJ-10K is the air variant of the CJ-10 ground attack cruise missile that was supposedly developed from the DH-10 (DongHai-10). The DH-10 itself was reportedly based on the Russian Kh-55 missile. First unveiled at a military parade in 2009, Project 2049 Institute reported earlier this year that, after more than

Prune juice? A Warrior’s drink!
Sure, with the help of Obama and Hillary, I am sure they can reach DC itself.
If they attack us who will buy their worthless crap? I wouldn’t worry too much about it.
More likely China and Japan are going to mix it up over the Sepeku Islands or whatever they are called.
boy you can always tell a commie airplane.
Does it have those business class cubicles? You have to have those now to fly over the Pacific.
“We all live in a yellow Chinese Bomber
A yellow Chinese Bomber.....a yellow Chinese Bomber”
“requires a smaller crew” oompa loompa sized?
Ahhhhhh....those tricky Chinese. They bought all The Flying Bananas from the old Hughes airline.
Yellow camouflage......yes.......works great if the sky was made of Mountain Dew.

Good one!
Don`t reach Hawaii coz
the Japanese tourists will reach Bejing
“How old is the Tu-16 design?”
Roughly as old as the C-130, which is still in production too.
Hawaii is in the middle of the pacific and absolutely essential as a forward military base of operations.
ya think?
Our radar operators would need to wear sunglasses when they painted that aircraft.
Oddly enough that aircraft could be quite effective in a first strike scenario. In peacetime our adversaries, as we, also fly sorties in international airspace toward our potential foes. This is for training and to see the response of our potential foes. We do not shoot them down as they do not shoot ours down in international waters. The TU-16 can carry stand off weapons i.e. cruise missiles.
A group of TU-16s with nuclear armed cruise missiles could take out our Pacific Fleet that is on the surface, in short order. We would not know the difference between a routine sortie and a first strike until they launched their missiles. If their "routine sorties" included low level penetration runs we might not even know until well after the launch of the cruise missiles that will be flying low low low above the ocean.
The Tu-16 is not a sophisticated aircraft. The Tu -16 is cheap. The Tu-16 can carry very sophisticated weapons and release them to do their havoc. Sometimes cheap is good military policy.
