As of moments ago, Spike Lee’s Kickstarter campaign to raise $1.25 million for his next feature film has raised about $215,000 via more than 1220 donations. The director explains that he needs a public handout....
... While Lee’s gambit is not a celebrity first (see Braff, Zach and Mars, Veronica), he may be the wealthiest online busker to date, an artist who does not need to seek, Knicks hat-in-hand, other people’s money to produce a new “joint.”
Perhaps Lee, 56, might have considered a relatively small loan or mortgage secured by his Manhattan home, a sprawling Spanish Revival mansion that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is likely worth in the vicinity of $30 million.

My position is that this clown can fund his crap any way he likes....but sites like kickstarter are usually geared toward folks who DON'T have the money to start their dream business...

This makes me laugh. The tv show Veronica Mars set kickstarter records, and they were originally told by the studio that there wasn’t enough interest in Veronica Mars. Spike Lee can’t raise hardly anything but he has studios willing to finanace all his white hate Crap. It blows my mind.

Well, anyone dumb enough to donate money to Spike Lee as a deserving charity pretty much deserves being snookered.
Bona fide “stars” hitting up kickstarter is the latest trend. Kristen Bell and Zach Braff to name a few. The studios won’t fund their pet projects so they go begging.
OK, I checked out his page. At low level you get various patches or posters from his movies, signed pages from his scripts up through being an extra in the movie or spending a day with him editing the movie. And for $10,000 you get to go to dinner with him and sit next to him at a Knicks game.
Not really. Spike's films--the ones that are really "his"--don't make much money and the studios aren't much interested. What he can do is work as a "director for hire" on big studio projects like "Inside Man" or the upcoming "Old Boy." But as far as his personal projects over the last decade, like "Miracle at St. Anna" or "Red Hook Summer," those aren't financed by the studios. They aren't that stupid.
I will donate if he makes his next film about a bunch of RACE PIMPS who go LYNCH MOB on a hispanic/white who defends himself from attack by a little OF COLOR PUNK. In the film a COMPLETE FOOL incorrectly gives out the wrong address to the lynch mod.
And give the proceeds to George Zimmerman. Spike baby should be forced to pay dearly for what he tried to do to Zimmerman’s family.
If I remember correctly Spikemouth thought he was making public GZ’s family/parent’s address and it backfired. Apparently Spikeassman published the wrong address to top it off. So much for thinking he is some sort of superior specimen.
