After reading some positive FR reviews I decided to give the movie a try. Yes, the movie is blatantly political. The plot revolves around a mishmash of liberal lunacy about healthcare and immigration. But the worst thing I can say is the movie stinks. Damon's acting is weak. The plot has huge holes in it. The characters are one dimensional. The big fight scene at the end looks like a bad imitation of a WWE fight. Worst of all, the futuristic scenario is not written in a way that has any logic of its own. Sure, I could believe that there is a machine that cures peoples illnesses and the rich folks all have one in their home but there was no good reason given why they didn't have any on earth. It's one thing to believe a factory computer is smart enough to figure out that Damon is stuck in a room that has deadly radiation but another thing to believe it is too dumb to do anything about it other than ring warning bells, or that Damon couldn't have just blocked the door open in the first place. It's one thing to believe that a central computer can control many aspects of Elysium but it is another to believe that the politicians there are stupid enough to have the computer be able to control who is in charge.
I have heard that this so-called corporation in the film could not care less about maximizing profits and shareholder value. Sounds more like a government agency.
It was filmed in the 70’s? Or it was set in the 70’s?
Is Pacific Rim just like Battleship but with robots?
Another Hollywood stolen plot.
The Cloud Minders — Star Trek: Season 3, Episode 21
Kirk and Spock are caught up in a revolution on a planet where intellectuals and artists live on a utopian city in the sky while the rest of the population toils in mines on the barren surface below.

I bet the special effects can be good. I saw ads for the Tom Cruise movie... whatsitcalled? His home in the sky they didn’t use a normal blue/green screen but actual HD projections for the scenes outside.
Otherwise the ads made the movie seem like Wall-E as a human. lol
If you like Greek mythology, then is a decent series as far as young adult fiction. The author (Riordan) is trying to re-popularize the myths. It is infinitely better for young adults (like my nieces) to read than Twilight, which should be banned worldwide.
It is also the major plot of the anime and manga series Battle Angel Alita.
And Astroboy. Rich in the clouds and poor scrounging on Earth has been overplayed for years now.
You’re talking entertainment. I’m talking REAL-WORLD designs. . . to actually BUILD these. . . . .
Better. I don’t know why people hate Battleship but I liked it. The only lame ass acting was from Rihanna but the rest is OK.
But your judgement is in question, didn’t you like Sharknado? :p
//sarcasm
LOL, I said I’m biased towards Sharknado as I personally know people at Asylum. Believe it or not, they already made a first draft for “World War V”. Guess which film it sounds like...
lol
did they also do the Battle in Los Angeles or whatever it was called, rip off ?
Umm, yeah LOL. They gave me that DVD so I’m not gonna diss them. I still remember my brother from out of state who visited me at work and my nephew saw that DVD, and one of them said “cool! The Battle of L.A. just came out on theaters and you have it on DVD?”. My reply was “ummm, not that Battle of Los Angeles, but more comedic..”
lol.
They didn’t show a lot of LA in that particular movie. A much smaller group of “soldiers” too
I wasn't a great fan, but that movie certainly wasn't simplistically propagandistic.
I figured that Blomkamp, a White South African, would probably have a more complicated, nuanced take on politics.
The movie did you a favor. If the film showed the entire L.A. area, you would be scared sh*tless and avoid coming here in real life.
lolz
Real world would have to have a full closed ring for a station of that size to hold atmosphere. At least Larry Niven, being an engineer himself, knew that the Ringworld had to have sides miles high to keep in the atmosphere.
