I am keeping track, I am well aware of what I spend on groceries. And well aware that the cost of many staples has risen. Used to be you could get a five-pound bag of spuds on sale for a buck on a regular basis. Now it’s two bucks. Meat and chicken has gone up as well. But I still spend about $150/month on groceries.
You are an inspiration! what is on your shopping list?
I grocery shop all the time....a pound of mediocre hamburger is in the $6 range unless you can get the “about to pass expiration date” deals like I search for. Bacon was $2.98-3.98 a pound; sometimes store brands in the $2-$2.50 area. Now $6.98 a lot of the time.
Milk, eggs, gas, bread, cheese, butter-—most of the food that isn’t included in the government’s list for economy standards are all up substantially. Other products still have the same prices and same size boxes, but less ingredients. Who the hell ever heard of a package with 11.3, 11.4, or 11.7 ounces ten years ago?
