Russia Invites U.S. To A 'Tank Biathlon'

Russia has invited the U.S. to participate in a tank biathlon so that both nations may learn to play nice — with heavy artillery.

The invitation was apparently extended while Secretary of State John Kerry and Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel Sergei Lavrov and Sergei Shoigu in Washington on Friday. The "two-on-two" talks were intended to relieve some of the tension between the two countries, so the suggestion of a little friendly competition — under fire — wasn't out of place.

Defense Minister Shoigu repeated the invitation during a Friday press conference, and according to Russia's , Shoigu says the U.S. agreed.

"'We've invited our American colleagues to participate ... and our invitation was accepted by US Secretary of Defense [Chuck] Hagel,' Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said Saturday."

NPR can't confirm this — calls to the Department of Defense went unanswered Saturday — but if such an event does take place, Shoigu says it'll be sometime next year.

Stalin was anything but parsimonious with his men. They were mere fodder for the war machine, lucky to be granted the privilege of dying for the Motherland. To their dubious credit — and much more certain detriment — millions of Russian soldiers believed the same way.

One more important detail. In the mid to late 30’s,stalin’s top commanders warned him about hitler’s military ambitions and the need to improve Soviet military. stalin was very busy at that time with repressions and killing of the Soviet military elite. This act alone caused millions of victims among civilians and military personnel during WWII.

Avigdor Kahalani is one of my heroes. I was amazed when the Merkava came out. I initially trained on the M60. We had a shoot off between my old M60A3 unit and one of the “new” M1 units. We outshot them stationary, but we weren’t even close to them when firing on the move.

Far better to have Putin and bathhouse Barry duke it out in mixed martial arts. With the rules slightly altered to even up the odds for JugEars, so that if one (he) wants to grab and tear at hair and scratch like a girl one (he) can do this

Doesn’t the Army train with other countries like that?

A Tank Biathlon might be cool to watch, they should invite the UK, Germans, Koreans and Israel to participate in an Armored Olympics. And any other country that builds their own tanks, I guess.

Regarding firing on the move, gyroscope wins but mostly for short range targets.

I became an Armor Officer after watching the news stories of the 73 War. The sight of all those tanks rumbling through the desert struck a nerve in me. I count standing in the TC’s hatch leading tanks as one of the three best things in my life (after my wife and son). It is always good to communicate with a fellow Tanker. Shalom. And if you see Kahalani, please tell him that his (and his unit’s) performance on the Golan was magnificent.
