Sean Sasser, whose relationship with the late Pedro Zamora on MTV's "The Real World: San Francisco" broke cultural barriers on U.S. television, has died, his longtime partner told CNN on Thursday. Sasser was 44.
Sasser, who had been HIV positive for 25 years, died Wednesday from mesothelioma, a rare form of lung cancer that was diagnosed just last month, Michael Kaplan said.
He died in the Washington home he shared with Kaplan.
Sasser was not one of the original cast members but became a household name as his relationship with Zamora was explored during the show's third season in 1994. The couple's exchange of vows during a commitment ceremony, the first ever broadcast on U.S. television, became a landmark moment in TV history.

Crack kills? ;)
Meso has nothing to do with sexual or digestive processes.
Oh man I remember all the jokes we used to make about Pedro.
Oh man this is too weird, just the other day I was thinking of Real World San Francisco. Oh well, another testament to the dangers of the gay lifestyle.
I guess just not my household, since I've never heard the name before.
I must have been watching another channel myself.
Who?
No! He’s on first!
We describe a 41-year-old African-American male who initially presented in respiratory distress. He had a positive history of asthma, cigarette smoking, and only recent possible asbestos exposure six months prior to onset of symptoms. Mesothelioma was suspected after chest radiography and PET-CT, and confirmed by immunohistochemical tissue analysis. We postulate that immunosuppression enhances susceptibility to mesothelioma, since weakened immune systems are present in both HIV/AIDS patients like this 41-year-old man, and elderly patients who compose the population that classically presents with mesothelioma. Furthermore, immunosuppression may be a prerequisite to the development of mesothelioma.Link
How did young Americans get sold on the idea that gay relationships should be celebrated? It took a while, and this MTV romance was just another step in the process. As for the unhappy endings, well, generally they leave that part out, and teenagers figure they are never going to die, so it doesn’t matter anyway.
I don’t understand.... I thought he and Pedro were going to be together forever, but his “partner” is somebody else. My belief in true love takes yet another grievous wound.
I guess it was meaningless, since he 'shared a home' with someone else at the time of his death.

For what it’s worth, according ot Wikipedia, Pedro died in 1994.
Oh, I know. I remember The Real World all too well from that era. My friends and I used to watch just for the pleasure of hating the characters.
poor Pedro...
my niece was just on the latest, Real World Portland...
Wow good for her! I never really was a fan of the show I just remember being 8 and watching Real World San Fran late at night when my parents weren’t around lol memories. For the sake of privacy I won’t ask which cast member she was.
Pedro died... i am sure many couples pledge to be together forever, and then death separates them, and the living half continues on... i would always tease my husband that once we were in heaven, he would ignore me... he would be too busy following the Apostle Paul...
