This Dr. stuff - I heard a story that I know to be true.

It seems there was this cardiologist married to a humanities PhD of some flavor or other. Let’s call him Dr. Beeper.

Well it seems that other doctors and the hospital would from time to time, call Dr. Beeper in the middle of the night and into the wee hours of the morn.

The wife, the English PhD or comparative religion PhD or whatever, was in the habit of answering the phone. When asked to speak to Dr. Beeper she would invariably respond with “Which Dr. Beeper do you want to speak to?”.

True story.

My dad was XO of 32nd St Naval Station from 1970 to 1977. We received calls at all hours when emergencies required immediate decisions. The caller often spewed all the details when I answered. I had to pause the stream of consciousness to call my dad to the phone. Amusing.

I have a similar problem today. I share a first and last name with a local high school science teacher. I get calls from students and parents. The best I can offer is that I can help them with the answer, but I can't do a thing about the school work. You'll have to call the teacher.
