FORT HUACHUCA Department of Defense civil service employees received good news Tuesday when they were informed nearly half of the furlough days they expected to have to take before the end of September were cut.
Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel said instead of 11 days taken without pay it would be reduced to six, meaning civil service employees working for the military will not have to take five days off sans salary.
So, instead of the employees facing a 20 percent loss of pay from July 9 to Sept. 30, the cut will be slightly more than 10 percent.
Angle Camara, the Fort Huachuca Public Affairs Officer said the posts civilian employees have demonstrated the Army value of selfless service as theyve continued to support the nation and its service members during this time of furlough. The reduction in furlough days
announced by the Secretary of Defense today is a welcome relief.
The fort has about 3,000 civil service employees working for the military.
In his memo, Hagel noted, When I announced furloughs on May 14, I promised that we would try to reduce the number of days.
In early May the DoD faced a shortfall of $11 billion in its operating budget he said.
The 11 days of furlough would have saved $2 billion and Congress approved a large reprogramming request which DoD submitted in mid-May giving us the flexibility to move funds across accounts, the defense secretary said.
By shifting savings, to include those involving furloughs the highest priorities of the defense establishment will be met, Hagel said.
Not only will there be a reduction in the furlough days there will be modest improvements in training and readiness, he said.
The goal is to have all employees to complete the six required furlough days by Aug. 17, according to the memo.
Noting the required furloughs Hagels memo only covers the Department of Defense and is not applicable to civil service employees in other federal agencies has financially impacted the defense departments civilian employees, he said, I regret the difficulties they and their families had to face during this furlough period.
Camara said while furlough days have been reduced from 11 to six, other budgetary constraints will continue.
At this time no overtime will be allowed, she said.
Gravy for the intestinal parasites.. Colon Soup..
Don’t be an ass. These people don’t work for the DMV.
But they do live on the taxpayer dime and increasingly act like it.
There’s assholes everywhere.. some posting on this thread.
And some folks simply don’t like those unpopular little truths.
I’ll be damned.. there’s another one.
I work with a lot of DoD civilians. There are jerks and there are good people, just like in the military and everywhere else I’ve been. They’re not taking it too kindly that they were forced to take a 20% paycut for no good reason.
Good thing they can’t get laid off huh?
Wanna bet?
I don’t have money to waste on betting, I’ve gotta pay government contractor salaries.
Yeah, you’re right. They all deserve to be unemployed for existing in a profession you don’t approve of. Screw ‘em. At least the unionized Shaniqua and her sisters at IRS will be OK, as will her cousins at HHS. They’re all alike anyway.
Dont be an ass. These people dont work for the DMV.
All civil “servants are parasites.. ALL OF THEM..
Mostly because of the Union... Most enjoy the Union..
What union? My daughter works for the Navy. She served in Iraq while in the Air Force and now she is a civilian employee with the Navy. She has a top secret security clearance. She’s not in any union. Is there something we don’t know ?
They’re not unionized, genius.
Look, I am no more happy that these people had to take a furlough than I am that over 40% of my company had to get laid off because of this damn President!
However, I really wish all those “oh, whoa are these pour people being forced to take 22 days off” groups would at least admit that - LIKE EFFING USUAL - the estimates from the government about the demise and abuse of their poor little employees was COMPLETELY OVER EFFING BLOWN!
Again, I am sorry for any person’s suffering from this stupid President’s economy, but I damn sure don’t feel sorry for those who swore this was the end of life for all military contractors as we know it! They were blowing smoke and screaming about these poor people, when we have ALL been screwed by this economy.
Then that doesn’t apply to the 102 that just lost their jobs, ehh,,,
Theyre not unionized, genius.
from the article...
“The fort has about 3,000 civil service employees working for the military. “...
Thats the ones I’m talking about..
Who are You talking about?
IIRC, that was a bill Obastard repeatedly threatened to veto.
