U.S. officials insisted Tuesday that extraordinary security measures for nearly two dozen diplomatic posts were to thwart an “immediate, specific threat,” a claim questioned by counterterrorism experts, who note that the alert covers an incongruous set of nations from the Middle East to an island off the southern coast of Africa.
Analysts don’t dispute the Obama administration’s narrative that it’s gleaned intelligence on a plot involving al Qaida’s most active affiliate, the Yemen-based Arabian Peninsula branch. That would explain why most U.S. posts in the Persian Gulf are on lockdown, including the U.S. embassy in Yemen, which on Tuesday airlifted most of its personnel to Germany in an “ordered departure,” the government’s euphemism for an evacuation.
But how, then, does it make sense for the State Department to close embassies as far afield as Mauritius or Madagascar, where there’s been no visible jihadist activity? And why is it that countries that weathered numerous terrorist attacks – Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iraq, for example – were excluded or allowed to reopen quickly?

Can you believe the President of our country was on a talk show discussing terror threats. Instead of address us citizens in a professional manner in the White House he does it as a joke on late night TV. What a joke he has put a stain on the position of the President.
Assuming any of this is real and not just more Obama Theater, it could be misdirection. They’re probably lying about the source of the intel, making the generic claim it was something picked up by NSA, and now they’re further protecting the source by closing lots of embassies instead of just the one they know is being targeted.
It’s an attempt to justify NSA spying.
Just that simple.
Not really so much different than fast & Furious was an attempt to convince us that guns had to be registered and more laws needed passing.
It’s an old Obama trick.
Obama is leaking critical intel to our enemies like a sieve. Over and over and over again.
Once you know who he really is, a black liberation Marxist who is extremely sympathetic to fundamental Islam, who hates and wants to fundamentally alter traditional America, the reasons are obvious.

one more opinion - from elpadre: AQ and Taliban do not use telephone or internet to communicate - haven’t since the Bush years when they learned early on that when they used the telephone or internet to discuss terrorist business that a drone or Seal team would soon pay a visit. I suspect the bad guys are playing games with us and sitting back having a good laugh because of all the havoc they can cause.

One of the things I noticed when looking at some foreign coverage of this is that AQ - or at any rate, the nutcase who is the leader of it at this particular moment - “issued a call” for the US to leave all Muslim countries just before this happened.
I think the embassy closings were Jarrett-Obama’s symbolic way of doing so and, essentially, surrendering.
That’s what occurred to me.
I know I sound like a nut when I say this, but their followers want to engorge the lumpenproleteriat to squeeze out the capitalists so they can then take the reins. And they are very influential in Marxist circles.
I wouldn’t put it past the regime that it’s a made-up “alert” for the following reasons:
- justifying the NSA snooping. The scandal is getting hot and many Americans including Democraps are quite mad about it. (See, we told you so, we are “protecting” you!)
- vacation time for a president and a regime who don’t want to “bother” with anything blowing up in the turbulent ME. America’s prestige and status in the world be damned. 0b0z0 would rather have some uninterrupted Reggie time and golf and no worries about what’s happening in the world.
There could have been signs of terrorists preparing for another 9/11 to double up on Benghazi. Closing this number of embassies because of the regular threats to one or two embassies is a regime selfdefense than anything else.
I just don’t trust the commie/Islamist regime about anything.
