Flashback: When Palin said Fannie/Freddie were too expensive to taxpayers in ’08, it was a “gaffe”

First off, I welcome President Barack Obama’s call to shutter mortgage giants (and giant pains in the public arse) Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Many conservatives and libertarians have been beating that drum since 2008 and before, back when Obama was voting present on regulation of Fannie/Freddie and taking more in donations from them than all but one lawmaker.

Now, it seems, we can work together on this project, as Obama pushed a Senate plan to close Fannie and Freddie during an economic address in Arizona:

But as home prices rise, we can’t just re-inflate a housing bubble. That’s the second thing I’m here to talk about today: laying a rock-solid foundation to make sure the kind of crisis we just went through never happens again.

That begins with winding down the companies known as Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. For too long, these companies were allowed to make big profits buying mortgages, knowing that if their bets went bad, taxpayers would be left holding the bag. It was “heads we win, tails you lose.” And it was wrong.

The good news is that there’s a bipartisan group of Senators working to end Fannie and Freddie as we know them. I support these kinds of efforts, and today I want to lay out four core principles for what I believe this reform should look like.

First, private capital should take a bigger role in the mortgage market. I know that must sound confusing to the folks who call me a raging socialist every day....

Hensarling’s bill in the House is a huge potential problem. Haven’t gone through it all but what I have read thus far smacks of Agenda 21 big time!

You can bet this is just a scheme to force private banks to make the same kind of crap loans that FM-FM were making.

It's Peanut Butter-Jelly time!

Can you give me an example of the problems you see with Hensarling’s bill?

Since he’s one of Boehner’s flying monkeys, I take it to be a major sell-out to the Dems, though I don’t know whether it’s just intended to get to reconciliation for that.

Oh no you mean the money train is going to stop. Way back when Barney’s boy toy was in charge of it everything was fine. Barney even came up for air several times to tell us so. At least I think that is what he was saying, hard to tell. Most even liked that dividend check they got every month from investing in the mae and mac. How funny. Bushy was trying to destroy the good times. Then everyone was so smart they said let the good times roll!

Did you hear Barney is now a pot smoking, rope su##ing, fudge pa@@ing, atheist now. Glad he finally found himself!
The voters in Ma. must be proud of their Barney.

I can’t wait to hear her response to this.

I hope she nails obama to the wall.

obama wants to kill Fannie and Freddie. Right. He’ll pull an “Acorn” and figure out a way to just give them a new name but keep the mission the same.

I need to find the copy of the bill again to refresh my memory but as I recall, there is little in the way of final recourse for the homeowner and could very well result in a legal way to take over more property. This issue becomes more apparent in the final portion of the bill but I remember the wording to limit recourse was very subtle.

We have been a bit busy down here dealing with the illegal immigration issue and Hensarling’s bill seemed to slip under the radar. The concept may be good but the devil is in the details. Particularly troublesome because Hensarling is from Texas.
