White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said there is “no question” that al-Qaeda is on the run, even though U.S. outposts remain closed due to terror threats throughout the world.
“We do stand by that,” Carney said on Tuesday when asked if he stands by his previous comments that al-Qaeda has been weakened despite the recent threat, according to the pool report.
“There's no question that core al-Qaeda in Afghanistan and Pakistan has been severely diminished,” he said. …

Reminds me when Algore was in a live CNN interview—in 1998 or 1999 at the end of the 17000 foot “war”—crowing that the Russians had absolutely agreed to stay out of Kosovo thanks to Gore’s intervention.
(He was running full force for president then, and Bill Clinton had just gotten off the air bragging about how Gore had just demonstrated great military “gravitas” with adversaries like Russia and the Serbians.)
And while Gore crowed about his success at taming the Russians and making them his b*tch, the inset video showed dozens and dozens of Russian tanks rolling full force into the Kosovo airport!! The CNN anchor (might have been Wolf Blitzer) was beside himself, wanting to avoid the spectacle and the embarrassment to one of his masters.
That was my very favorite moment of many Algore favorite moments!

I have a novel idea...instead of closing embassies around the world (which is tantamount to abandoning sovereign ground), why not...you know...staff them each with a small (80-90) company of Marines.
