After weeks of waiting, MLB has finally announced its Biogenesis suspensions. Twelve players have been hit with 50-game suspensions, and Alex Rodriguez has been issued a suspension through the 2014 season for a total 211 games. Because A-Rods suspension will come under the Joint Drug Agreement, he can still play while he appeals the punishment and will be in the New York Yankees lineup tonight for the first time this season.
Many have questioned how the suspension will impact Rodriguezs legacy (see here, here and here), and its a subject that will undoubtedly be debated for years to come. Whats not up for debate, though, is that A-Rod has been among baseballs best players since he took over as the Seattle Mariners starting shortstop in 1996, and he ranks among the most dangerous hitters of all time.
Rodriguez is currently 16th in career wins above replacement (Fangraphs) with 114, ranking ahead of Rickey Henderson, Jimmie Foxx, Mike Schmidt and Carl Yastrzemski. He is fifth all-time in home runs with 647, and he ranks second behind only Barry Bonds among those who played during the steroid era. In other words, of all the sluggers who used or allegedly used performance enhancers, only one has gone deep more times than A-Rod. His three MVP awards are tied for second-most in history, and in 19 seasons hes ranked among the top ten in MVP voting ten times.
Put more simply, Rodriguez absolutely dominated his era and is an all-time great. If not for steroid allegations, Rodriguez would not only be a shoo-in for the Hall of Fame, but a likely choice for first-ballot enshrinement.

Meanwhile, I posted yesterday, somewhat tongue in cheek..that ALL the suspended players ( except Braun) are Latino...nobody in the sports media has touched that one as yet..
No he doesn’t...he cheated. Period.
Yeah, well ... I heard they’re tryin’ to silence ANOTHER player ... Ben Ghazi.
...Alex.... drug user...
Consider him AFTER Pete Rose
Drug user, fornicator and selfish, deceptive narcissist. No doubt he reflects the values and customs the culture that spawned him. Hall of Fame? He is a prime candidate to be a Democratic nominee.
No one who artificially enhanced their stats through anything should be in the hall of fame.
Rodriguez admitted to doing so earlier in his career, he’s accused of it again, but that he’s already admitted to past use is all I need to know. It means his stats aren’t real.
Since his stats aren’t real, he shouldn’t be in the Hall of Fame. It’s not even a hard question to answer.
Luckily, no one really considers either wiener head for the Hall
This clown fails to see the absurdity of skipping over Bonds to induct AR. And after citing Bonds as having better stats.
He belongs in the Hall of Shame.
Yeah, he belongs in the Dopers Hall of Fame.
Consider Pete Rose decades AFTER Shoeless Joe Jackson.
Inducting drug-enhanced record holders is no different than giving a Nobel Prize to assholes who have done nothing at all (most accomplish nothing, though drug-enhanced, in that case).
He will never get in. It’s not all about numbers. Obviously, this author hasn’t read the voting rules that refer to integrity and sportsmanship. This is why Bonds, McGwire and the rest of the cheaters will never get in either.
I read a story last night that MLB is aware young Caribbeans are using steroids since in their countries there is no regulation compared to here and then drafting them to play over Americans that work the old fashioned way.
Post of the day. ...an ego like that won't be silenced.
If you have the link..I’d appreciate it...
