SAYLORSBURG, PA. A gunman blasted shots through the wall of a municipal building during a meeting on Monday and then barged into the room and continued firing, killing three people, before he was tackled by a local official and shot with his own gun, a witness said.
The shooting, which also injured three people, happened shortly before 7:30 p.m. during Ross Township's regular monthly meeting, Monroe County emergency management director Guy Miller said. The gunman, who appeared to be "shooting randomly," was captured and was in state police custody at a local hospital, which was placed on lockdown, he said.

The shooter, who had an ongoing dispute with the town, was tackled by a local official and shot with his own gun after he went on the rampage around 7:30 pm in Monroe County, Penn.
The gunman, who appeared to be shooting randomly, was being treated at a hospital last night and was in police custody.
The Pocono Record reported that authorities later descended on the property of Rockne Newell, a local hoarder who has been cited for numerous violations.
After battling with the township for almost 20 years, Newell was ordered to vacate his property last August, the paper said.
Among the complaints were the massive amounts of junk that Newell kept on his property, including buckets of human waste.

He got a building permit from the township to have a storage structure on the property, but then built a dwelling without first getting a zoning permit or certificate of occupancy from the township.
Over the years, authorities have responded to Newell's property as a result of neighbor complaints and on one occasion in 2009 found human fecal matter in buckets there, according to previous reports in the Pocono Record. The township determined he was improperly disposing of sewage with no septic system or permit for one.
In a previous article, Newell said he couldn't afford septic hookup fees.
"If I lose this property, I have nowhere else to go," Newell told the Pocono Record in June. "What they're doing to me, what they've been doing to me for so long, it's wrong."

He's a liberal.
On his Facebook page, Newell said he voted for President Barack Obama but was upset with his administration, citing the Presidents failure to close down Guantanamo Bay and the continuing federal crack down on medical marijuana. He also posted an image on his page in support of the Second Amendment, along with a lengthy note opposing gun control. On his Twitter page, he tweeted in support of a petition to eliminate armed guards for the President, Vice-President, and their families, and establish Gun Free Zones around them.
In a comment at Mother Jones last year, Newell wrote: if you bring an AR15 to a public meeting & parade around with it you should go to jail I believe in the second amendment, but there is a difference between the second amendment & terrorizing people!

Another mental case that belongs in an institution, but the left closed down mental institutions in the 70s.

He voted for Barack Hussein Obama but was upset with
"the Presidents failure to close down Guantanamo Bay and the continuing federal crack down on medical marijuana." Not the TEA Party type. Just another disgruntled DemocRAT. I'll bet his ObamaPhone was out of minutes too.

Saylorsburg is a peculiar location. I don't want to make light of this atrocity, but there have been other incidents in this area over recent years. I recall some kind of animal farm controversy, and isn't there some kind of cult compound up around there?
I've driven by it many times on Rt. 33 which goes through Wind Gap, there in the foreground. There are a series of gaps in this long ridge including Lehigh Gap and the Delaware Gap, which accommodate rivers. Wind Gap, which lies between them, represents an ancient river which lost its hold on the ground and was elevated out of existence. It is a sort of gateway to the Poconos, and seems to be skewed slightly from the conventional by virtue of its geography.
