OCEANSIDE While her Marine husband was in prison at Fort Leavenworth for killing an unarmed Iraqi, Reyna Hutchins got a call from the FBI: her name was on a "hit list" of a suspected American terrorist, an Al Qaeda sympathizer.
"As much as they tried to reassure me that I was safe, I was still scared," she said.
She worried each time she started her car that a bomb might be attached. She kept her curtains closed, fearing that she would become a target of a sniper. When she ventured out, she was constantly looking over her shoulder.
"I wasn't comfortable being in the house, unable to protect our daughter," she said. She sent their daughter to live with her grandparents.
The fear would last for months as the federal government investigated, arrested and convicted Paul Rockwood Jr., a convert to Islam and onetime employee of the National Weather Service in Alaska, on a charge of domestic terrorism for his plan to kill "enemies of Islam."
Rockwood pleaded guilty and was sentenced in August 2010 to eight years in prison, the maximum.
In addition to making a list of intended victims, prosecutors said, Rockwood talked of shooting people in the head and researched how to make explosives and remote triggering devices and how to send bombs through the mail.
For Reyna Hutchins, the Rockwood case was another agonizing twist in her husband's prosecution for killing an Iraqi, one of most high-profile cases involving Americans accused of war crimes in Iraq.

SecNAV MabASS not happy now and shooting his fiery darts at Larry.
Thanks for getting her name out there front and center, LA Times!
Researching making an explosive and actually doing it are probably two different things. I wonder how many would be terrorists blow themselves up in the process? I’m amazed we haven’t seen lone wolves or small packs of terrorist Muslims just going into malls, strip centers, churches and crowded restaurants and shooting up the place.
He has his rank of Sergeant back and he’s at his last duty station, which is/was Pendleton.
In Obama’s new model military? Are you kidding?
>> high-profile cases involving Americans accused of war crimes in Iraq.
Remind me of the assholes in Congress that made the profiles of these cases so high — simple, justified curiosity.
John “Blowhole” MURTHA! Bet it’s pretty pretty hot where he is now ;)
Ping on Larry Hutchins

One among a few.
Yep, from Mabasses past actions on this and other cases it wouldn’t be surprising if he’s in the middle of it insisting on a retrial, he and Murtha were two of a kind.
Hopefully it’s dropped and they can get on with their lives.
Thanks for posting and the ping, FRiend.
Thanks for the ping FRiend!

“Marine’s Iraq murder conviction tossed - Hutchins, USMC Hamdania”

Thankful that Sgt. Hutchins can begin his family life now, after 9 years of waiting and service to our nation.
Semper Fi!!!
Your tax$$$ at non-work.
How does he find the time? I thought sequestration was keeping everyone busy.
Hutchins looks and sounds good for everything he’s been through. It would be good if the military just dropped this, but I see from one of the articles that they would owe him a lot of back pay. Doubt they would be willing to pay up.
Good to see his family is intact even if they’ve been through rough spells, at least they are together.
Thanks for the info and the ping. Saoirise.
