Amash: Snowden is a whistleblower
The Hill ^ | August 4, 2013 | Brendan Sasso

Rep. Justin Amash (R-Mich.) said on Sunday that he believes National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden is a whistleblower, not a traitor.

"He may be doing things overseas that we would find problematic, that we would find dangerous," Amash said on Fox News Sunday. "But as far as Congress is concerned, sure he is a whistleblower. He told us what we need to know."

Amash explained that although members of the intelligence committees were informed of the details of the NSA's surveillance, most lawmakers were in the dark about the programs.

"Without his doing what he did, members of Congress would not really have known about it," the Republican lawmaker said.

Obama/Jarrett and his administration have only them selves to blame for this....Snowden exposed Obama's spy program then tried to protect himself from his own government....he is not the first whistle-blower who has had to run for his life.

For all we know, they are not happening, and due to secrecy we will never know the truth.
All we do know is Snowden is ratting on his country.

This is damaging our abilities.
I Guarantee they are not listing to you talk to Aunt Mabel about your Christmas plans.

Well, they don't seem to be doing a very good job at using the data for counterterrorism. They had a lead on the Boston Bombers thanks to the Russians and did nothing with it.

And the data collected on citizens will some day be abused for political purposes, just as the IRS was abused in such a manner.

I am not saying they are watching me now. I do firmly believe that this data will be abused in the future for political purposes. After all we have seen this administration do - how they have ignored the law and perverted institutions to do political bidding while pretending Muslim terrorism is workplace violence - I don’t see how any other rational viewpoint is possible.

Oh, and Obama and his flying monkeys clearly consider Tea Partiers to be more of a threat than Islamists. Heck, Obama likes Islamists, embraces them, thinks like them. And DHS draws up memos on how conservative causes are terroristic.

The key is to get them the hell out of office, and clear out their low level lackeys.

When they start dragging us away in dead of night for differences of opinion, then we have a problem.

I'd rather get that guarantee from our elected representatives. The mere fact that they have implemented the means to monitor and record of private communications of private citizens is a matter for serious concern, something that should never have been done without the knowledge and approval of the people of the US.

The saddest part is that our government and their toadies aren’t even trying to convince us that its right or legal for them to conduct this kind of surveillance. Instead they’re just trying to convince us to accept it anyway.

If they can simply ignore one part of the constitution, they can ignore it all.

Yeah, the GOP did such a good job with the influx of Tea Party energy after 2010, eh? Squandered it on a guy more interested in attacking conservative challengers than Obama.

The GOP-E hates the Tea Party almost as much as the Dems. I don't trust the establishment in either party not to abuse the NSA data collection that, under the Constitution, they have no business gathering without due process and probable cause. It needs to end.

Obama made sure that Snowden has been forced to defect to Russia where Putin will relive him of all the NSA secrets he has with him. Obama prevented Snowden from seeking asylum in Iceland and other decent places where USA-NSA secrets would have been safe even if Snowden used some as bargaining chips

Look how the CIA is following Obama orders ro keep the Benghazi survivors away from congressmen who want to talk to them. The treachery and treason is pervasive in the 0-regime

One day we will find out that Valerie Jarrett was behind a lot of this treason and criminal activity

When they start dragging us away in dead of night for differences of opinion, then we have a problem.

Sorry, some of us aren't going to wait until that starts before fighting against such abuses of power. Because we know that is what the hard left really wants. Why allow them to assemble the tools to facilitate such?

Even Sensenbrenner, who drafted the PATRIOT Act, says this gathering is way beyond the scope of that act.

http://sensenbrenner.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=337001

Congressman Sensenbrenner: “As the author of the Patriot Act, I am extremely troubled by the FBI’s interpretation of this legislation. While I believe the Patriot Act appropriately balanced national security concerns and civil rights, I have always worried about potential abuses. The Bureau’s broad application for phone records was made under the so-called business records provision of the Act. I do not believe the broadly drafted FISA order is consistent with the requirements of the Patriot Act. Seizing phone records of millions of innocent people is excessive and un-American.
