Are you seriously telling me that 12% of that number were not born in the US? 12% = 38.5million
Absolutely. It is more than that. It was 12.4% in 2010 but edging closer to 13% now. How can you continuously deny the facts? If anything the numbers are understated. These are official government figures. The USG estimates that there are 11 million illegal aliens but other estimates are much higher. The 40-plus million includes the 11 million illegals.
We have more than 40 million foreign born in this country. We add about 1.5 million net each year. From 1860 to 1910, between 13 percent and 15 percent of people in the United States were born in another country. After 1910, the share of the population composed of the foreign born began a steady decline, falling to less than 5 percent by 1970. But that share has increased rapidly since 1970, reaching about 13 percent in the past few years. About 40 million foreign-born people now live in the United States.
All of this discussion does not take away from the fact that our system of immigration is seriously broken, and has been for at least 3 decades. I just don't like anyone using selective stats to project a desired result.
Seriously broken how? Be more specific on what you mean. You are mouthing the pro-amnesty rhetoric.
