President Obama vetoes Samsung patent ban on iPhone 4 and select iPads
Dante D'Orazio on August 3, 2013
The Obama administration has stepped in today to veto an import ban Samsung won from the International Trade Commission to prevent the iPhone 4 and some iPads from coming into the US. The move marks the first time since 1987 that a President has interfered with an ITC order. Such import bans, which effectively prohibit the sale of certain devices, have come under scrutiny from the Justice Department and the Federal Trade Commission as more companies are seeking the bans (instead of monetary damages) in an attempt to harm their competitors. Earlier this year President Obama also expressed his intention to combat "patent trolls," making today's veto not unexpected.

P!
Samsung makes a good phone and tablet, they can compete without these kinds of shenanigans
P!
It’s just retaliation for Apple’s shenanigans.
” Earlier this year President Obama also expressed his intention to combat “patent trolls,” making today’s veto not unexpected”
jeeshs you would think Samsung patented a rectangular shape with rounded corners.
Samsung makes the best stuff these days!
So what was the payoff for this ‘extortion’ by the administration?
Regardless of the merits, it’s not Obama’s place to over-rule judicial decisions. If a judicial decision needs to be addressed, that’s what appeals courts are for.
Once again, Obama is in over his nine year old level head.
"It is good to be Absolute Tyrant."
As I said on another thread, I don’t have the authority to rob a bank. But I can rob all I want as long as nobody objects.
That’s about it.
Now that Apple is locked into data sharing/mining with NSA, things might get better for Apple:
Apparently, while Steve Jobs was still alive, he kept NSA from data mining Apples customer on line data.
After Jobs died in Oct, 2011, our government probably put all types of pressure on Apple to get access to their data.
In the meantime Apple lost a law suit in Japan, which could have seriously hurt Apple.
Tokyo Court Hands Win to Samsung Over Apple

TOKYO A Japanese court on Friday rejected patent claims made by Apple against Samsung, a victory for the company after its crushing defeat in the United States last week and a reminder of the global scope of the patent war between the two technology giants.
Recent court decisions have put Apple back in the winning side versus Samsung. One can only imagine the pressure put on Apple to share its Data with NSA.
The link below shows a time table of Prism and its getting companies to agree to NSA data mining their data.
Now that Apple has granted NSA access to its customers on line data, the heat applied by the Obozo administration may be over, if Apple walks the line properly.
“So what was the payoff for this extortion by the administration?”
I may have posted some of the answers to your excellent question in my reply #13 to this thread.

Exactly. Apple is just as much a patent troll as any company or individual in the world. Patents are supposed to improve innovation and allow the little guy to compete. Recent movements in the ip world seem to favor the big fish heavily and will lead to less innovation. Apple, Google, Amazon, Microsoft and many other big fish attempt to own any possible innovation not in order to innovate but to prevent others from making a better product or service than they have.
These companies do innovate. Don’t get me wrong. But they have figured out a way to game the system with perpetual patent protection.
