A new national poll from Quinnipiac University shows that a majority Democrats believe the federal government should bail out Detroit, but an even larger majority of Americans oppose such a move. Fifty-one percent of Democrats support Washington providing federal assistance to Detroit, which last month became the largest American city ever to seek bankruptcy protection.
Not surprisingly, there is a strong partisan divide on the question of a federal bailout for the Motor City. Seventy-three percent of Republicans oppose a bailout, while only 18 percent support the idea. Independents are nearly of the same mind as Republicans on the issue: 68 percent oppose federal assistance for Detroit and 28 percent support it

They mocked while watching dancing with the stars.
They should have been in the streets- fighting house to house.
The lazy conservatives that only mocked the uber blue areas deserve what’s coming to their chi8ldrens.
The weakest generation this nation has yet had produced ( Baby Boomers ) was too busy watching dancing with the stars to get out in the streets and fight for this nation.
Keep posting bi***es!
LOL
“Mommy, Jimmy spent all his allowance on junk food again. I have been saving mine for a long time”
“Well, that is not fair you should give Jimmy half your money”
“Whut?”
Sorry Detroit, it is your hell, you live with it and fix it yourself. You have had decades of idiotic rat control and failed policies. That was not my choice, is not my responsibility, and my tax dollars will not go to bail you out from the poor choices you’ve made.
Giving money to bail out Detroit is the same thing as the $trillions of dollars that has been given to the moocher class over the years and will give the same results.
Well, it’s not my call to make, but put me firmly in the “no freakin’ way, pal!” camp.
A bailout of Detroit won’t fix anything. The same corrupt and inefficient structure and power brokers that have led the city to ruin will scoop up all that federal money and not change one damned thing.
The only way to fix Detroit is to sweep out everything and everyone in power and start fresh. I used to work for a company with branch offices in Chicago and Detroit. For all the talk of “The Chicago Way”, I’d rather do business there anyday of the week and twice on Sunday than try to deal with the train wreck that is Detroit.
As for California...gee, I thought Governor Moonbeam fixed everything out there? Guess not.
there will be no bail out. We are totally and completely broke and Republicans are taking the Senate in 2014 with 10 new seats in the House in 2014. Many rinos will fall in the primaries to the wonderful TEA PARTY. Get Ready.
Here's a shovel-ready project for you: let's dig a broad, deep moat all the way around Washington, D.C.
Democrats want it, public opposes it, so how long until John McCain and Marco Rubio join with Schumer and Reid to make it happen?
And, there is no reason to worry about the Golden State...
...Why, at this very moment we are tackling that budget worry by borrowing over 70 billion dollars to build a bullet train from Madera to Fresno (using chinese technology).
Hmmm ... uh-oh.
.
Don’t worry only he union pensions will be bailed out.
Both NY and California have oil/shale reserves that could save them from debt, but both states choose not to use those resources.
Detroit is not that lucky. They would have reduce that city like Carthage and rebuild it from the ground up to ever see prosperity again.
The fiscal burden of the economically unsustainable UAW retiree benefit contracts that GM had “negotiated” with the union bosses was transferred to the public debt of the U.S. Government by application of Stimulus Funds.
The panting socialist would-be “saviors” of Detroit want the same treatment, shifting the burden to American taxpayers.
Its only fair, don’t ya know?
Poverty won...and now have cars, wall to wall TVs, free cell phones, etc, etc, etc.
They're never satisfied.
Seriously, it’s time for states to stop allowing tax dollars to leave. If you pay taxes in, say, Tennessee, those tax dollars should ONLY benefit Tennessee. In fact, take it down to the county level - tax dollars ought to be spent to benefit the county in which they are collected.
It’s time for the working people to quit supporting the freeloaders, and that includes freeloading cities like Detroit. They are a net tax burden as it is, and a bailout will make them even more so.
There’s NO WAY tax-payers outside of Detroit should have to pay for their stupidity and union greed. They collectively created the problem, let them collectively solve it on their own.
They might start by cancelling the “build” of a $44 million dollar hockey arena. that much money would buy a lot of street lights, manhole covers, etc., etc. Definitely DO NOT let them use the money to pay off the union goons pensions.
