Civil rights leaders on Wednesday hailed the passage of a Los Angeles City Council resolution calling for federal prosecutors to investigate the death of Florida teen Trayvon Martin.
In a 13-0 vote, the Council passed the resolution by Councilmember Bernard Parks, which urged the U.S. Department of Justice and the Attorney General to conduct an investigation into possible civil rights violations in Martins death.
The vote makes L.A. one of the first U.S. cities to formally endorse a federal civil rights probe announced by U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder in July.
On July 13, 2013, neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman was acquitted of second degree murder and manslaughter charges in the death of the 17-year-old Martin, who was shot and killed on February 26, 2012 in his hometown of Sanford, Florida.
Parks, a former Los Angeles police chief, said a formal investigation would help satisfy those Americans who disagreed with courts verdict, which sparked demonstrations in L.A. and other U.S. cities.....

LA is a violation of human sanity.
Remind me to never set foot in Californicatia.....
LA? Are they too stupid to realize they have no standing? They’re in California?? Dolts!
Trayvon is a dead issue. Bernard.
If anyone’s Civil Rights were violated it was George Zimmerman’s
Where is the investigation of the 16 month old child shot in the face by a burglar who was robbing his mother.
Oh that was a white child. That’s OK.
The time for action is getting closer every day.
Latest feel good stunt. First of many.
Buy more bulk foods and ammunition and store more water.
How about backing a Federal probe into a death over which Los Angeles has some jurisdiction, like, oh I don’t know ... Michael Hastings maybe?
Parks was an absolutely pathetic Chief of Police. I’m sure he’s serving the 8th district equally well.
That would make a great t-shirt.
Justice for Nicole and Ron!!!
Tookie....Is....Dead....
I hear you. This will not end well, government is totally dysfunctional now. There is a powerful delusion that fills the land.
Aside from the particulars of this case, it is absurd for a city council to weigh in on matters it has absolutely no connection to, nor authority over. This reminds me a bit of when the Denver city council passed a meaningless resolution opposing the Iraq war.
Politicians, even at the lowest levels, crave power and left to their own devices will always try to appropriate more of it for themselves. I’ve witnessed many city councils and county boards of commissioners apparently get bored with the mundane matters that are their actual duties and instead decide to become self-appointed administrators of the world.
They should just stick to what they were elected to do and leave it to higher-level elected scumbags to screw up the bigger issues.
No, but for the LA city council it’s porn for their circle jerk.
They should be investigating the OJ verdict.
I bow to your earlier post
