Small farmers are thought to produce higher quality and organic produce. Possibly true; but the small ones cannot produce ENOUGH to feed the masses.
If they could; they'd be BIG farmers - wouldn't they!

They could produce enough and better quality food but have been elbowed out, to put it nicely, by BigAg and companies like MOnsanto who spend millions on lobbying and bribing the "folks" in Washington to write and pass legislation in their favor.
