The mother of Trayvon Martin said Monday that she believed Floridas Stand Your Ground law played a role in her sons shooting death, but she wasnt ready to support a boycott of the state for not changing the self-defense law.
The thing about this law is I just think it assisted the person who killed my son to get away with murder, Sybrina Fulton, the mother of the 17-year-old from Miami Gardens, said at a National Bar Association event in Miami Beach.
I think we have to change these laws so people dont get away with murder, she said, adding that her son was unarmed and peacefully walking back to his dads place when he was initially pursued by George Zimmerman.
Zimmerman successfully pleaded self defense in the killing. A jury acquitted him on July 13 in Sanford.
But the exact role of Stand Your Ground in the case isnt clear. Only two jurors have spoken up to CNN and ABC, and just one referenced the law, which allows a person to more easily use deadly force without having to first retreat in a confrontation.
Zimmermans legal team didnt focus on mounting a Stand Your Ground defense, however, saying that a common self-defense justification was all the 29-year-old man needed because he reasonably feared that Trayvon, who jumped him, was going to gravely injure him during a fistfight.
The National Bar Association, echoing calls from the Dream Defenders protestors occupying a part of Gov. Rick Scotts office in the state Capitol, has called on Florida lawmakers to repeal or amend the law....

Did she opine about people comitting crimes in her dead son’s name?
Frankly beyotch, I think the fact that your son not only threw the first punch, but knocked Zimmerman to the ground, straddled him, and beat his head into the pavement had a bit more to do with your son's death than any law did.
Laws like Castle Doctrine, SYG, etc., were passed to a great extent in response to predatory lawsuits by attorneys of unsuccessful criminals (i.e., the ones who get shot by their intended victims). The “NBA” wants to abolish this impediment to looting the victims.
plus the fact he brought his fists to a gunfight.
A setup for Nancy Pelosi Congressional Circus tomorrow ?
TM bragged about being in a gang too.
Gang bangers don't like Stand Your Ground laws that enable self defense against gang bangers and want the laws repealed.
Isn't that special
Although I'm not a lawyer what you say has the ring of plausibility to it.Of course a civil suit brought against GZ wouldn't,in the strictest definition of the term, represent "double jeopardy" but that's a minor point.
Is this so-called mother still out on extended leave from her job? It’s been over a year hasn’t it? Most government agencies require you to return to work within a year of any accident, illness, etc., or you are released from service. She got special privileges not offered to other civil servants, which is definitely discrimination.
This case had nothing to do with stand your ground. It had everything to do with self defense
With all due respect, if his mother is unaware of the charge Zimmerman was acquitted of, then she must be an idiot.
Attention “Traydemark’s Mom:” George Zimmerman was accused of second degree murder. He was acquited. SYG had NOTHING to do with the trial or the jury’s deliberations.
In fact, IIRC, SYG wasn’t even mentioned during the trial.
On the contrary, Trayvons mom's child abuse level of parenting helped her profit from her Negro thug's death.
You pretty much summed it all up in that post.
This idiot just repeats what the idiots tell her to.
Evil evil evil woman. And butt ugly to boot. I know, that is nothing in the scheme of things, but honestly, she is just racked with evil running through her. Lying pos
As a mother who has lost a son, I was ready to be sympathetic to this black trash biotch. But I cannot understand selling your son’s memory. She’s an attention whore.
All the more reason to disqualify lawyers from being “lawmakers.” It’s the most stunning conflict of interest in the world.
“The mother of Trayvon Martin said Monday that she believed Floridas Stand Your Ground law played a role in her sons shooting death, but she wasnt ready to support a boycott of the state for not changing the self-defense law.”
How white of her.
Do tell us what an angel he was. Perhaps you would care to explain some of his finer academic achievements and model citizenship activities during the past 18 months of his life. 18 months when Trayvon's Mom passed him over like the juvenile delinquent he was.
And then Trayvon's Mom tell us why in the world Trayvon's Dad would not check that said cherubic angel was snuggled in his bed until the next morning and then his first call is to Juvie hall. Why Juvie Hall Trayvon's Mom? Explain that!
Would love to see how Trayvon's Mom and Dad would do on a lie detector test answering questions about Trayvon and whether they feel relieved to no longer have to hear of his "activities."
The very last thing Trayvon's Mom and Dad want made public is the real Trayvon legacy.
Trayvon's Dad wants his son's name associated with some law or statute.
Well, how about the term, "He got Trayvon-ed" when some miscreant gets offed while committing a crime.
WINNER! SYG is TORT REFORM. The reason “THEY” want it overturned is so that families of thugs hit the lottery every time their “Angel” gets stopped cold.
NO SYG = distributive justice, where a dead thugs family ( & their attorneys) can be “compensated” outrageously for “good shoots.” Of course racist black firms (like crumps) want SYG repealed. There are tons of thugs getting killed every day and they can make a fortune off it. Kind of like abortion mills in the ghettos. Blacks cheer both on, go figure.
No, the sidewalk proved it was self defense.
Ain’t it sumpin’ that her dead kid has given her such undeserved fame.
