To put this all in perspective, one must remember that Article I of the Constitution entrusted control of the suffrage, even in Federal elections, to the States. The provision was that those entitled to vote in Federal elections be governed by the same standard as each State applied to the election of the more popularly elected branch of the State Legislature.

While the Constitution has been amended several times to limit the discretion of the States in this area, the time has long since come to push back in the opposite direction. By any objective metric, our electorates are now obviously less qualified than were those in the 19th Century. (Just look at the 30 second sound bite, in contrast to the debates in the era of Webster, Clay & Calhoun.)

Must we just sit back and watch the death of the American Republic, because of idiocy such as described in this article? For more on the issues: Universal Suffrage--Threat To Liberty.

Well said...It's time to take the whims of a president and corrupt AG such as Holder out of this as well. Especially when they ignore a SCOTUS ruling such as just took place regarding Sec 4 of the VRA.

Thanks for the link.
