Japanese crowd pushes 32-ton train to save woman stuck between car and platform

You move 16 tons, and what do you get?

I happened upon a wreck I could tell was very serious when I started seeing injured children scattered in the roadway. A car had broadsided a pickup truck loaded with kids at an intersection.

The car spun around and had rear ended a utility pole. There was a set of legs sticking out from underneath the car and someone had tried to jack up the rear of the car with a bumper jack that was leaning precariously. This was a full size automobile. The battery had shorted and the engine compartment was smoking.

I had an idea that we might be able to at least lift the rear of the car off the kid underneath. He was trapped under the rear axle. We all got into position and we picked that damn car up at least four feet into the air! It was the most amazing thing I have ever witnessed.

A medic who also happened upon the scene, slid the kid out from underneath the car. He actually was able to crawl underneath because of how high we had lifted it and carefully remove the child.

Everyone survived that was involved - at least six kids were thrown from the pickup which had overturned after it was struck.

It was a miracle none were killed that day.

Actually, I don’t remember being sore at all the next day. Happy, yes! As these things sometimes happen, I was motivated to do something because the driver recognized me, even though I could hardly tell who he was from the dirt and blood covering his face. He grabbed my hand, and asked me to get his son from underneath the car.

When I was in High School, Louie Wagner drove a 32 horse Volkswagen to school. Four of us larger fellows would leave at lunch and pick up his car. Sometimes we'd walk it down the block, sometimes we'd move it to the other side of the street and facing the wrong way. When we moved it in front of the school's front door the Principal stepped in and said not to do that again as it created a fire hazard.

You hear about people doing these sort of "super human" feats of strength sometimes individually, sometimes collectively. I think people are capable of doing amazing things when a booster shot of adrenalin is pumping through their system.

LOL, we used to do the same thing to a 5th grade teacher. We would carefully set it back down between columns with about 6 inches to spare between both bumpers and the columns.

I can't explain what happened that day about 8 - 10 of us lifted that car off of that little boy. It was if it didn't weigh hardly anything at all, but it was a full size 5000+ lb automobile. We actually had to ease up some to steady it and maintain control.
