At a Hispanic Listening Session Friday, Paul Ryan met a man he said summed up why hes pushing to reform the countrys immigration system.
Gustavo Vargas described coming to the U.S. from Mexico to work, without detailing his immigration status. When his five-year-old son died, Vargas said, he made the hard decision to bury the boy here.
He and his family love the United States, and we want to stay here, to live, Vargas told the congressman. Later, he said quietly that he wasnt looking for attention, I just wanted him to understand.
In front of around 300 people in St. Patricks Church, Ryan shook Vargas hand. You asked the reason why Im doing this? Thats why. Thats why Im doing this, he told the crowd.
Ryan, a Republican from Janesville whose district includes all of Racine County, laid out his vision for passing what he called lasting immigration reform Friday, speaking at the church at 1111 Douglas Ave.
Immigration is a good thing for this country; immigration is this country, Ryan said.
The congressman and recent vice presidential candidate has been working as bridge-builder between fellow Republicans, seeking support to pass sweeping reform piece by piece, and potentially vote this October.
Although the Senate passed its own reform package earlier this summer, I think we (in the House) can do a much better job, Ryan told The Journal Times. I think that we have to have real, verifiable border enforcement, real, verifiable workplace enforcement, a visa tracking system, and I think we have to have a system that makes sure we respect the rule of law ... with these probationary visas. Thats the basic concept that Im describing... that, I think, is where the consensus lies.
Its a way to keep the system fair, according to Ryan.

Sob stories should not be running public policy...
Sob stories should not be running public policy...
Most liberal policies are based on sob stories.
That’s true - but we’re not liberals...
It’s how liberals sell ideas but I believe most of their ideas are based on weak Marxism.
Clearly the Journal Times reporter did not apply jounalistic principles to this article. The editors of Wisconsin media are asked to clarify just who Gustavo Vargas is --- since Cong Ryan is building a case for making US laws based on this person.

US citizens need to know answers to these questions.
Who is Gustavo Vargas? How many identities does he have?

How many children does Vargas claim on IRS forms in order to get EITC refunds?
