About 1,200 inmates have escaped from a jail in the restive Libyan city of Benghazi.

A security official told the AP news agency that most of the escapees were facing serious charges.

Another report said a riot had taken place inside the al-Kwafiya prison.

The jailbreak comes a day after the assassination of a prominent political activist triggered protests in the city, although it is not clear whether the two are connected.

Benghazi is one of the most unstable parts of post-revolution Libya. Last year the US ambassador and three other Americans were killed there.

On Saturday protesters attacked offices linked to the Muslim Brotherhood following the assassination of the prominent political activist Abdelsalam al-Mismari. Hundreds of mourners attended his funeral.

Governments in the world of Islam do not warehouse criminals. That is a western practice which would seem silly in a world of Islam rule.

America forced a prison system on these people and it makes no sense to them. You kill enemies of the state as far as they are concerned. The resources of guarding, housing, feeding, clothing, and medical care for criminals is just goofy nonsense in the world of Islam. Why would a nation waste such resources?

I don’t know, but it sounds like fighters redeploying to Syria.

Current US policy is to “help the Syrian rebels” to “oust Assad”.

The financial oligarchy has instituted this policy.

Not many espionage managers would need to know about the operation inside CIA or MI6, just have the local Western-backed/MB/jihadis cause a commotion and bust the place open, perhaps a few clandestines on site to manage, set up the transport to Syria, etc.
