Two words: Bill Clinton.IIRC, this Ramadan thing didn't become an issue until Bill Clinton used it as an excuse to hold off bombing Iraq in 1998. Also, if attacking during Ramadan was such a big offense to the Muslim people, why didn't Clinton feel the same way about Christians when he snatched Elian Gonzales during the Easter weekend the following spring?
We now know that Muslims do not hold Ramadan in such high regard that they defer attacking others out of Holy respect.

Should have been called the “ Ishtar” Dinner. Just as much a failure as the movie, only less funny.
There are good Moslems in America and many have made significant contributions in various fields, but they didn’t create this country, didn’t fight for it (they weren’t here so this is not a slight) until the late 20th Century (Gulf War I and OIF, Afghanistan, a few in WW2 and Korea/Vietnam), and didn’t write any of the great legislation that made us who were are.
Again, decent American Moslems have participated in helping to build 20th Century America, but 19 Moslems tore a lot of it down on 9/11. There is a difference.

President George W. Bush held eight Ramadan dinners at the White House while he was in office.
Note the article specifically points out Bush used the dinners to recognize the contributions of Muslim Americans. It appears Obama is merely continuing the tradition started by his predecessor.
