You can go state by state, and find various states without an urban area (like Iowa),

...Iowa has Dubuque and Des Moines, two urban settings exhibiting typical urban rot...look at Wyoming and Vermont instead, two states totally devoid of sizeable urban settings...and the analogy is valid...

Great example. The populations of Wyoming and Vermont could not be more different in many aspects, political and cultural. However they have two things in common, and we all can guess what they are. They are demographics and lack of gun control.
