. . . and the Muslim Brotherhood is still “moderate”, right, Clapper? And none of this surveillance shall ever be extended to mosques per current practice?

Clapper said he was joining the leaders of the congressional intelligence panels in cautioning against acting in haste. He said he welcomes an open and candid discussion about the NSA programs.

Except when he's lying to them.

I demand a list of all Terrorist plots foiled, with names and countries of origin. Case closed.

Sorry, Clapper, but you should have considered that before NSA exceeded its Constitutional authority and before you lied to the Congressional Committee.

Sounds like a protection racket. “Be a shame if you cut our funding and something happened to that nation of yours”.

The entire federal government is obsessed with collecting information on citizens.

It seems the real “enemies” they are after are critics of Obama, gun owners, defenders of the constitution and Christians.

So we should heed the warnings from this lying bum who lives by sucking on the public tit? He needs a kick in his ass.

I have come to the opinion that the general NSA employees are working within the confines but an amount equal to their entire cost is being spent with “contractors” and “consultants”.

These groups are directed by political appointees and higher level people that can be influenced by political agendas and additionally do not have the tight training and strictures of a full time classified intelligence service employee.

All of the leaks, problems and issues have been with these folks and interagency low levels piped into the NSA feeds like the young army traitor.

As this is this sensitive, cut out the contractors, restrict the programs and have the trained people do the jobs (or refuse to do the jobs) as put together by the political appointees.

The loyal grunts that do the work are being cut by sequestration, not the top level hogs. Further budget cuts are going to come out of the trained line-level employees not out of the contractors working on “specials” in my worry.

When we have a corrupt and agenda driven administration in place for another 3 years all we can do is cut the purse strings but we need to give it direction.

I am in private industry but work with DOD people everyday and have some idea of the cultures and types of people involved.

Obama has 3 years left to put together the largest database of voters, politicians, and businesses ever accumulated. Think he’ll use it for political advantage?

Exactly. They won’t even consider some vital tools in the war on terror, like focusing on the communities that produce 99% of terrorists. Yet, they expect us to give up our freedoms so they can use much more costly, less effective tools?

Sorry, no sale. Once I stop seeing TSA employees wearing headscarves and start seeing airline passengers in headscarves getting singled out rather than granny... once I see FBI infiltrators inside every mosque in the country, instead of inside every militia and patriot group... once I see the INS crack down on violators as quickly and harshly as the IRS cracks down on violators... then we can talk about why you need to read my emails and listen to my phone calls.

Spok ~ It’s like Nazi Germany; associating with the wrong people, even accidentally, can be a death sentence.

The "an essay" monitors a suspect, everyone he talks to on the phone, everyone who talks to anyone he's talked to on the phone, everyone who talks to anyone they've talked to on the phone, and everyone who talks to anyone they've talked to on the phone.

They call these "hops".

Citizen-suspect call out for pizza. Anyone else who calls the same pizza parlor is now a suspect, as are ALL of their friends, if one of them calls out for Chinese, anyone else who calls "The Peking Moon" becomes a suspect, along with all of their contacts!

That's only four "hops"...

Why do we need the NSA?
WE have the FBI and the CIA, already.
As demonstrated on TV shows, (where else would somebody get such an original idea, these days?), we have all those different military CSI groups.
Isn’t that enough agencies?
