Here's video of Sybrina Fulton, the mother of Trayvon Martin, at the National Action Network headquarters this weekend right before a series of nationwide rallies protesting the acquittal of her son's killer, George Zimmerman.
"I am still the proud mother of Trayvon Martin," she told the crowd. "Today it was my son, tomorrow it might be yours."
Fulton said she believed her 17-year-old son had been "afraid" when he was approached by Zimmerman.
"He had no clue who this guy was that was following him in a car, and then got out of his vehicle and then followed him on foot," she said. "Would you go home and take the person to your house?"
She went on to say, "My son died without even knowing who his killer was, without even knowing who murdered him."
The event was organized by Al Sharpton, who said he would help push for passage of a "Trayvon Martin amendment," which would prohibit aggressors in confrontations from claiming self-defense, as Zimmerman did at his jury trial in Florida.
Sharpton also praised Trayvon's brother, Jarvis, for his composure on the witness stand. "He made me proud to be a black man in American that day," Sharpton said, holding Jarvis' hand.
Also at the event was retired judge Greg Mathis, of The Judge Mathis Show, who complained about the all-white jury that acquitted Zimmerman; New Jersey congressman Donald Payne Jr., who said he cried when talking about the verdict to his teenage sons; and Eliot Spitzer, the former governor and city comptroller candidate. Spitzer, the only white person on the stage during the event, did not speak. Afterward, when a Newsday reporter asked Spitzer whether he asked to be there or whether he was invited by Sharpton, Spitzer said, "I think many people have been invited and, as I have said, I have had a relationship with the reverend for many, many years and this is all part and parcel of smart, thoughtful, wise use of tragedy" to change the law.
Cindy Sheehan, now in black.
Who is paying for all these trips? Because I’m 99.9% sure she’s not spending her portion of the HOA settlement on this. Attorney General Eric Holder? Mayor Bloomberg? ACORN?
Sure he did. He was a "creepy ass cracker".
If ANY other group were doing that very same thing we would call them "poor white trash." Oops, I forgot, we already do that.
Yawn.
Trayvon barely even knew his own mother...F these people
Moveon.org, ANSWER, Workers of the World Party, etc.
Antonio West - so lets go there Mrs. Martin. Murdered baby by two of Obama’s kids - 18 month old shot in the face. Oh, it was an Hispanic baby. Media silent.
that aint good copy
Good point. While she gave birth to him, she has not been raising him all these years.
Yet she and the dad are going around, as if they were one big happy family. The mom and dad have not been together as a couple for years. Yet they present a false image to the world that they were this happy family. And the media will not call them out on it.
Nor will the media report the evidence that Trayvon was a gang banger in training.
Blah, blah, blah, Sybi, blah, blah, blah.
SNORE I love the smell of burning Skittles from hell
A mind is a terrible thing to waste.
Can’t ONE reporter point out to the parents that it was clearly established in court that Martin followed Zimmerman to his car AFTER Zimmerman had stopped following Martin? Or that Martin had 4 minutes to walk the less than 100 yards to the house he was staying at and instead chose to find Zimmerman?
what does that mean ?
That is not true. After he got shot he said to George something like, "You got me," or something to that effect.
So, Trayvon knew he'd been shot. His poor excuse for a mother is lying through her teeth.
That’s funny considering at age 2 she gave Trayvon to his aunt who was an ex gang member..days prior to the shooting she kicked Trayvon out of her house, must have been the backpack full of jewels that he had stolen from neighborhood residences..anyone notice since Trayvon was killed we havent heard about any crime or burglaries in the Zimmerman neighborhood
I wonder what all of dad’s girlfriends think of this. Maybe they’re hoping to get in on the gravy train too.
