Aspen, CO. - Turmoil in the nascent Libyan government is likely frustrating the FBI's attempts to capture the five men suspected of playing a key role in the attacks on the U.S. consulate and CIA facility in Libya that left four Americans dead last September, according to former U.S. Africa Command chief, Gen. (ret) Carter Ham.
"It's more the dealing between the government of the United States and this emerging yet fragile government of Libya that has impeded any significant progress on bringing to justice those who killed our friends," said Ham during a talk at the Aspen Security Forum in Colorado last night.

While the U.S. made some progress initially in working with the Libyan government that has emerged in Tripoli since Muammar al Qaddafi was overthrown in late 2011, that stalled as senior officials in the Libyan government came and went.
"This is one of the consequences of the fragility of the Libyan government," said Ham. "Progress was made initially but then the government changes, key leaders change."

This is just one example of what may be many of how tough it will be for the U.S. to form working relationships with the new, often fluid and shaky governments that are emerging from the political upheaval in the Arab world. It also shows that it may be a while before the U.S. is able to put the Banghazi attack behind it.

I thought that Panetta was going to ‘issue a strongly-worded “post-it” note to the Lybian ambassadore’ about Benghazi .
I guess it got lost in the mail ?
The list, Ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
I thought Gen. Carter Ham was relieved of duty because he ignored the “Stand Down” order. What kind of crap must the NSA/IRS/DHS/PRISM programs have on HIM, to have him spewing out psychobabble crap like THIS?! It’s such a horrendous shame that these generals can’t control their own genitals, so that when SHTF time comes, and they attempt to stand up to corrupt scum such as is currently running the Country, their former misconduct is thrown in their face, and they fold up like a cheap umbrella.....and start parroting mealy-mouthed drivel such as THAT, to keep their job and their precious pension.
I believe that yours is an accurate statement .
Coercion is a powerfull political and financial tool.
I have heard it said that rank of Captain and below is based on ability ;
above the Captain rank,it is more political , and based on ability to secure lucrative contracts .
Must be Italian.
An afterthought after I posted that reply: From what I’ve heard thru the years about the “revolving door” for high ranking military officers and the “Military-Industrial Complex” I can’t see why Ham would need to kiss anybody’s backside. I’d think he could take his retirement and get a cushy gig in some corporation.
