Sen. John McCain tells Newsmax that the American people "overwhelmingly" want the Senate and House to come to an agreement on immigration reform.
The Arizona Republican and 2008 presidential candidate also says he will do "everything in my power" to see that Obamacare is repealed but warns that shutting down the government is not the way to go about doing that. House Speaker John Boehner has reiterated that he would not allow a vote on the bipartisan immigration reform bill passed by the Senate, which McCain championed, because he says it is too massive and not strong enough on border protection.
In an exclusive interview with Newsmax TV on Monday, McCain comments: "I obviously appreciate that the speaker has a very difficult leadership position here. Some members of his conference don't want to vote on anything, there's some that want to vote on specific aspects of immigration reform, and there are others who want to pick up the bill. So he is in a very serious leadership position on this issue.
"Congressman Paul Ryan, our vice presidential candidate in 2012, is supporting the legislation, so what we're trying to do is galvanize our base of support, which is broader than any coalition I've ever seen, and try to convince our colleagues to pass something and bring it to the [GOP] so that we can hopefully act on this issue.

McCain is a POS.
Well he’s kinda correct. I want immigration reform...reform ed so that WE STOP LETTING FREAKING ILLEGALS IN!
I want the border protected and foreign criminals arrested and deported and no bennies for illegals - I would call it reform
I want the border protected and foreign criminals arrested and deported and no bennies for illegals - I would call it reform
You know, when I hear these words, “the people want COMMON SENSE reforms” from someone like McLame, my sphincter tightens involuntarily.
Start by securing the border.
Evict those who are here illegally, with 30 days for them to self-deport--heck give 'em a bus ride for free to the nearest appropriate exit.
After those 30 days, send them packing after you get their biometric data and they will have forfeited any chance to become a US citizen, get a green card, student visa, etc. If they are from a country on the terrorist watchlist, send 'em to Gitmo and sort it out from there.
Yes, Senator, we want reform.
But what we want and what you have in mind just might be different things.
In the meantime, reform Welfare so the payout isn't high enough to leave 'jobs Americans won't do'. People are more willing to work when their comfort depends on it.
Sounds "heartless"?
Nope, it's tough love, baby.
It will be a great day once Mc Cain retires and tends to his garden and flowers. He had done a great job for this country in the past and was a war hero but as with everything else, time takes its toll and has affected his decisions.
Well, I suppose in a way he is right. A few people overwhelmingly desire Immigration Reform the way he envisions it. Many more overwhelmingly desire Immigration Reform in that they want the current policy of encouraging wetbackery to be Reformed by closing the border and sending all the border jumpers and overstayers back to where they came from or to anywhere outside of the USA.
There is no agreement among American people as to what kind of immigration reform. First, I want them to enforce the laws they have already passed and secure the US borders. If it takes digging a moat and stocking it with alligators, than that's what it takes for immigration reform.
Did someoe fart or was that McCain speaking again?
CRAZY UNCLE ALERT !!!
He’s out again.
Who forgot to lock the attic door this time?
The only reform I want sends millions back where they came from.
For good.
You can always count on FReepers for something really cool.
Americans also overwhelmingly want food, but that doesn’t mean they’ll eat anything Chef McCain slaps on their platter at the Road Kill Grill.
I wish that POS would stop saying “reform.” What HE means is amnesty and I don’t know who could be for that. The only REFORM we need is to end welfare and the free ride we give dishonest and/or lazy people.
Sure thing Juan McLame...we “overwhelmingly” wanted gun control too, remember?
Why can’t he retire? Arizona.......Please retire him.
