Best part:
The Daily Beast's Eleanor Clift... does manage to reach back and find an example of a story Thomas broke:
Thomas had her share of scoops, and they included being the first to report on the death of Caroline Kennedy's hamster. Laugh if you will, but this was big news in the age of Camelot, when the public was eager for every scrap of information about the first family and their young children. Thomas called White House press secretary Pierre Salinger at 3 a.m. to get confirmation

She back in Hell?
Or Lebanon? (Or can she tell the difference?)

I am loathe to mock the dead, but I laughed at that (the likeness is genuinely uncanny).

The AP obit reports that "Thomas is to be buried in Detroit, 'the beloved city of her youth,' Seems appropriate since both outlived their usefulness 50 years ago

Thanks Michael.SF. James Taranto:
This columnist was anything but an admirer of Thomas, and normally we'd give the subject a rest out of respect for the recently departed. But the over-the-top encomiums demand a critical examination because they exemplify a moral and intellectual rot within the journalistic profession
Wait -- there's a journalistic profession?

I’m with you. I have nothing bad to say about her. I am curious why I haven’t seen any articles of praise for Helen. Seems she lived and died without notice. Only heard one report on the news. Saw a photo of her with JFK. That was about it.

ALL of our ‘disciplines’ have been co-opted by Commies!
I don’t give a rat’s rump about this hag, but you’ve GOT to admire the tenacity of the ‘Rats.
Oh, to have another Reagan Revolution where conservatism beats them down! I fear I shall not see it within my lifetime...
We do NOT have the old ‘blood sport’ attitude, IMHO. Very sad. A LOT of individual Americans have it, but our leadership totally sucks.
Herding cats. *SIGH*

Ms. Thomas was born in Winchester, KY, seventeen miles east of my house. Does this mean she is coming back? I don’t want to see a monument to her, the next time I visit that town.

RIP Helen
However, I would use the line in this article for your epitaph:
"moral and intellectual rot within the journalistic profession"
