I’ll admit there were times when I thought I’d made a mistake but those were in the beginning and once you
get the hang of things it gets easier....somewhat.
They do it on purpose, they take everything away
then they give you back bit by bit, the Marine Corps.

I’ll never forget my drill sergeant in Officer Candidate School at Quantico who promptly put the fear of God into us newly arrived recruit misfits by threatening us with the pronouncement that there were only three ways we were going to leave OCS: In a pine box, direct flight to PI for failing OCS, or graduating and being commissioned. Two classmates left in pine boxes, one swallowed a can of Brasso and the other stood on the railway tracks and got run over. One guy cheated by stuffing newspapers in his backpack instead of packing his 782 gear for a 10 miler and got caught. He was shipped directly to PI. As OCS candidates, we believed, whether it was true or not, that PI was the most demanding of all places for Marine training./p>
