A Texas couple came home from vacation this week to find an empty lot where their house once stood.
A contractor in Fort Worth, Texas, sent to demolish the condemned house next door instead mistakenly destroyed David Underwood's home, which had been in his family for decades.
The contractor mistook the house for the condemned one because it was vacant with no electricity. Underwood and his wife had just purchased his grandmother's old house from his aunt and planned to move in after some renovations.
They discovered their future home was gone when they dropped by to mow the lawn Saturday after returning from holidays.
The house next door, which was supposed to have been demolished, was still standing.
"I can literally remember sitting on the counter when I was a little kid, and my grandmother would cook breakfast, lunch, dinner, whatever," Underwood told the Star-Telegram newspaper.
The city says it's investigating the error.
Did the contractor demolish the wrong house or did the city order the wrong house demolished?
Sad. I hope the Doc is unemployed.
... and don't forget to write the words THIS END UP on your forehead.
At least they didn’t raid the wrong house then demolish it with the occupants still in it.
I hope you wrote on the correct one!
Sometimes the house slated for demolition looks good but has irreparable foundation problems.
They did that to me at the VA hospital when I had my triple bypass. After they wrote, "Triple Bypass" in magic marker, I had them write another line under that, "Please return heart to previous position when finished".... just kidding!
Reminds me of a story from France last year:
“Authorities have launched an investigation after an 18th-century French chateau was demolished, apparently by mistake.
“The 13,000-square-metre Château de Bellevue was located among the famous vineyards of Bordeaux and was due to be renovated to its former glory, but instead it was bulldozed by a Polish building firm.
“Workmen were only supposed to demolish a separate small building on the grounds of the estate, but that remains standing.”
MMMM...Minority contractor, perhaps?
That’s nothing.
Imagine superior technology.
Then imagine Vogons.

Now that’s a “French Mistake.”
Lots of rapid Espanol bickering going on in the background. Mucho “no intendo” can be heard.
Lots of disclaimer doc signing noting and verbal saying “correct” place for surgery AND surgeon marking with magicMarker now days.
That's nice, but irrelevant. Single payer healthcare would need to get passed by Congress, and while I don't have a whole lot of faith in McConnell and Boehner, I believe they just might stop that.
I think you're wrong on both fronts.
1) Whether your care is provided by an MD or an NP is to a large extent a question of scope of practice, which is determined on the state level, not by anybody affiliated with ObamaCare.
2) There may eventually have to be "major restrictions on access to healthcare" if healthcare utilization rates go way up and the number of providers does not, HOWEVER as I said earlier that's a long way off -- and not something that is either provided for in ObamaCare directly or something likely to occur during Obama's term of office. That's a long term potential problem, not an immediate threat.
I remember looking out my window one morning and remarking to my husband about what a coincidence it was that our neighbours were getting their siding removed the same day ours was scheduled for replacement.
Whoops....
They are going to enjoy their brand new house much more than the old one.
It’s hardly irrelevant. The entire aim of ObamaCare is a takeover of the health care, a la NHS. ObamaCare is simply a midpoint. As P.J. O’Rourke said, socialism is communism by the glass. ObamaCare in its present form was never intended as the Endlösung, just as close as they could get away with.
