Chicago's new war on guns: Letters

Chicago police are going to hand deliver letters to people suspected of committing or being victims of gun crimes in an effort to stem violence in the city, according to a new report.

Starting Friday, a district commander will be delivering letters warning certain targets in that district not to commit violent crimes, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

The pilot program is targeting individuals off a “heat list” developed by a Yale professor, who studied murders on Chicago’s West Side between 2005 and 2010 and found a small network of people was responsible for more than 70 percent of the killings, according to the Sun-Times.

The letters warn people who have been put on the list that they will be charged with the most serious crime possible if they are arrested for a violent offense.

“If there’s a Yale professor involved, it’s bound to be a sterling success, right?”

Look how much your remark says about the complete deterioration of this country.

Hey, maybe those guys were always idiots, but I don’t think so.

Stuff has just gotten real messed up in this country in the last few decades. Smart people just lying to themselves (and the rest of us) ALL THE TIME; MSM propagating those lies; anybody who points out the obvious facts being shouted down as a bigot and a racist.

It’s not good.

You know, I’m generally against surveillance cameras, but maybe that would be a better idea for chi-town. I reckon most of these murders are happening in a few select areas, throw some cameras up there and see if you can’t ID some real perps.

Your post reminds me of a letter to the editor I saw years ago. It was about some proposed NJ law to make something illegal in a “school zone”, or extra illegal I should say.

The writer said: just make every crime a felony in a school zone and then re-zone New Jersey so it is entirely comprised off school zones - our crime rate will drop to zero!

It’s like our employees in the government don’t want to do any real work at all, just BS make-work.

Right on Rahm, I'm certain the thugs and gang bangers are really going to pay attention to a letter. [Hint: Rahm, there are a lot of Chicago “youts” and gang bangers that are functional illiterates — they can't read.]

Yea, that should work real well. Like telling the black crowd that Zimmerman is NOT GUILTY yet they continue to push for “justice for Trayvon”. Well, would someone please tell them St. Trayvon received his justice aleady. Get over it!

Hand out enough guns and ammo and they would eventually solve the problem themselves.

Many of the recipients will not be able to read the letter.

My first thought was how loonie to pay someone to act this stoopid. Then I realized it was OK, because he is NOT acting.

We....Are....Doomed.

Wait...what? Being a victim gets you a threatening letter?

Warning them not to even think of packing for their own protection in the future?

Yeah, I guess it’s a “don’t retaliate” message. It’s very hard to believe it’s real, but I guess it is.

would be instructive to find out what it actually is; it’s not as though these events don’t get reported in the paper so we would soon know who to go to. (they will report shootees but not shooters!)

I did some statistical work of my own on this topic... And the results were glaring: if you take out just the gang crime stats from the top urban counties, the U.S. has one of the lowest crime rates in the world.

The overwhelming part of violent crime is committed by a very small number of people.
