WASHINGTON - Defense attorneys for George Zimmerman released a response to President Barack Obama's remarks on "stand your ground" laws and how the Trayvon Martin verdict is affecting the community.
"We have listened to President Obamas comments about the verdict in the Zimmerman Case. People are focusing on this quote: 'Trayvon Martin couldve been me 35 years ago.' To focus on this one line misses the nuances of the Presidents message, which includes comments about how African Americans view the Zimmerman Case in the context of the history of racial disparity in America," the defense wrote on their website, GZLegalCase.com.
"While we acknowledge and understand the racial context of this case, we challenge people to look closely and dispassionately at the facts. We believe those who look at the facts of the case without prejudice will see that it is a clear case of self-defense, and we are certain that those who take a closer look at the kind of person George Zimmerman is -- something we understand the Department of Justice is currently doing -- we are confident they will find a young man with with a diverse ethnic and racial background who is not a racist, a man who is, in fact, sensitive to the complex racial history of our country."

Obama spoke in a surprise appearance Friday at the White House, his first time appearing for a statement on the verdict since it was issued last Saturday. He said he has watched the discussion over the last week since the verdict.
"If I see any violence, I will remind folks that that dishonorable what happened to Trayvon Martin and his family," Obama said.
Obama says black Americans feel pain after the Martin verdict because of a "history that doesn't go away."
Obama says African Americans view the case through "a set of experiences and a history that doesn't go away." He says black men in particular are used to being feared and blacks see a disparity in the way they are treated under the law.
He says he also has heard drivers lock their doors and has seen women clutch their purses tighter when he walked by, before he was elected to public office.
Our President is no better than Al Sharpton. Just another race-baiter appealing to low-info voters.
Once again 0bama makes this all about him....
I wonder if the victim who was killed was white and the watchman was black...would 0bama have said...the deceased could have been his son.....after all the pResident is half white...
Nah didn’t think so....
Or, he may just be letting them dig their own grave for civil rights charges.
So 0 is admitting he was a thug who was willing to rob jewelry, smoke grass, jump and mercilessly pound the night watchman's head into cement.
Not that anyone is surprised.
Bingo!
Before he was elected he wasn't a threat. Now that's he elected women should definitely clutch their purses tighter, and men should hold on tight to their wallets.
Just the latest in a long string of dishonesty from Obama and the Left. “Stand your ground” had nothing to do with this and was irrelevant. The prosecution had the burden of proving beyond a reasonable doubt that he committed the charge of 2nd degree murder and it was not an act of self defense...they did not do so - not even close, regardless of whether the “stand your ground” statute existed or not.
I’m no lawyer but WHY will these people not simply say openly that Prince Trayvon shouldn’t have assaulted their client.
I have experienced that as well. I just never used it as an excuse to take on a victim mentality.
There are couple of other experiences that our African President forgot to mention that pertain to African-Americans. One is the fear of being killed by another African-American. Another is the ostracization and abuse one will experience if he/she tries to break out of the culturally-enforced conformity of how African-Americans are supposed to think, act, etc.
2. If they weren't, they would have asked the simple question,
3. The POTUS also managed to conflate "Stand Your Ground," with "Self Defense." This is a really stupid MSM national trend. A real lawyer would know the difference.
4. Repeat question 2.
All a distraction from the impeachable IRS scandal. IRS IRS IRS. Our President is a criminal.
An American Ambassador and three brave American protectors are murdered while the President slept and he thinks the nation is upset over this media event.
what a freakin’ scab picker!
Most car doors lock automatically when you put the car in drive ...
Absolutely right!
The Germans and Americans get along, once enemies, the Japanese and Americans get along, once enemies, and on and on.
Obama is a “White-Negro” who wants to perpetuate racial discord. And he plans to capitalize on it.
And I will always clutch my purse tighter to my side, lock my car doors (I do that at all times anyway), and make tracks to leave the area if I find myself by some stupid mistake in a part of town where the majority of residents are black. Being familiar with the interracial crime statistics, I would be a fool to not do any of these things. If someone’s feelings get hurt, I’m really sorry, but better their feelings than my life or my dignity as a woman.
I will never wind up like Eve Carson or Channon Christian if I can help it. What happened to them, Christopher Newsome, the elderly women who were raped and one then murdered by “black yoots” , is more than enough reason to consider my safety over someone’s “feelings”, especially considering the interracial crime statistics, in particular the ones for rape. If I was raped by a black animal, especially as an over 30 yr married homemaker who has been with one man, I would seriously have to kill myself. I have told my husband this. He said, don’t worry, my rape and death would be avenged, by more than one person, and no tracks would remain. My husband is a former police detective.
Blackmailed as in Petreus, Roberts? Ah yes. It will be a grand day when Obama leaves office. Hope it is not too late. The flimsy opposition Republicans have exposed their true characters—elitist power hungry traitors.
