Seven times, Fox News anchor Jamie Colby tried to get George Zimmerman's brother to criticize the president and his speech about Trayvon Martin. And seven times, he declined to do so.
Robert Zimmerman has earned a reputation for his outspoken interviews. After the verdict, for example, he went on CNN and suggested that Martin was looking to get a gun and grow marijuana. During the case, he was a font of unswerving on-air support.
So, when Fox spoke with him by phone shortly after the president's speech today, they likely expected something other than what they got. In question after question, Colby tried to elicit some combativeness, some critique of the speech. And in answer after answer, he didn't rise to the bait.
Zimmerman's take: It was good the president spoke, and what he said was important. He agreed with the president he didn't even object to the government's on-going investigation of possible civil rights charges. But most of all, he agreed that kids needed mentors. He kept coming back to this, turning Colby's leading questions into ways of advocating for mentorship.

I agree with that, but it just makes his change in attitude from less than a week ago all the more striking. I saw the interview as it was happening. He practically endorsed the idea of a DoJ investigation of his own brother.
No point in antagonizing people who can use the machinery of government to come after you. If the persecution continues, he can always talk about it in order to raise funds to combat it. I’m sure plenty of conservatives will open their wallets if requested to do so. Right now, he’s saying “nice doggie” to Obama and his pack of salivating pit bulls.
Just shows he has a billion times more integrity and character that this admitted foreign born twice unconstitutionally elected Islamo in disguise could ever hope to have. The ONLY reason the Zimmerman family is going through this hell is a DIRECT result of this unconstitutionally elected regime. Al Sharpton is $2.6 million in debt to the IRS. How much you want to bet that disappears when this dies down? This is all deflection tactics. Deflection from Benghazi, Egypt, and commie care. Self defense shootings like this happen every day, and *this* gets all this attention? Baloney. This is coming straight from the regime.
The lawyers probably told him to tone it down in order to prevent it from becoming some kind of grudge match.
Since you seem to know so much about this guy, do you happen to know what kind of job he has? It is never mentioned in his interviews.
I think he comes across as superbly articulate, and he must be a great brother to George.
As for his toned down interview in regard to OweBowMao’s comments - well, it’s one thing to take down the likes of Piers Morgan and another the vindictiveness of this administration. It might have something to do with upcoming lawsuits as well. Maybe he got some lawyerly advice?
Probably the most credible reason. Still, it would have been smarter to say nothing than what he did today. The attorneys themselves made a perfet response.
I realize your question wasn’t directed to me, but I read somewhere that he’s a musician, but I don’t know if that’s how he makes his living.
You’re confusing him with O’Mara. Robert has never been combative.
He supports Obama, that’s obvious.
No I do not, and I really don’t know a lot about him. I know he’s gay because he publicly said so in an interview at one point explaining George always stood by and accepted him. I don’t think he talks to much about his personal life including what he does for a living.
He’s always said he welcomes the investigation because they have nothing to hide. I guess at this time it’s best they keep it toned down yet get the law suits ready.
I don’t think that’s obvious. I think he’s a family representative trying not to make things worse for his brother. There are lawsuits in the wings as well.
I don’t think you’ve seen all of his interviews. He’s been very aggressive in defending his brother. Until today.
Nobody welcomes a DoJ investigation.
I expect that O’Mara sat him down and told him to cool it until the fbi and holder are off his case. No use asking for trouble.
Hes been doing a stand-up job for someone in his position. I think he handles himself better than most politicians and TV pundits.
Robert’s response was mild because Bammie’s comments were mild.
Robert should have just thanked the Pres for extending his sympathies to his mother and father for what George’s parents have had to endure over the last year and then let it go at that ........ ohhh ..... what’s that??? .... he didn’t .... ohhhhh .... just the Martins .... ohhh ..... never mind.
Zimmerman voted for Obama and I imagine Robert did too.
Weather you welcome it or not if they want to do it there are gonna do it. I guess the best thing you can do is embrace it and beat it.
Then he should not have any problems with O and Co keeping his fire arm.
I just don’t understand gun owning liberals. I live next to one. He’s read for the zombie attack. I told him, Obama’s gun collectors will be coming to his house first..
He’s in denial...
I call him my early warning device. They know about his guns.
