The Chicago city council voted unanimously on Wednesday to toughen its existing ban on assault weapons by adding more types of guns to the banned list and imposing stiffer fines for violations of the law.
The nation's third-largest city is facing a wave of gang-related gun violence. Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Chicago police have struggled to reverse the trend that has persisted even after they put more police on patrol in some neighborhoods.
While official statistics show Chicago's murder rate has subsided somewhat from last year, injuries and deaths are common from gun violence, particularly in predominantly African-American and Hispanic neighborhoods. Violence is usually higher during the summer when the weather is warmer.
Chicago acted quickly on gun control to beat a deadline set by the state of Illinois for local governments to set tougher gun laws before a state law allowing the carrying of concealed weapons goes into effect.
Emanuel said the tougher laws would improve public safety, but others questioned whether the laws will be effective.

As the Red Queen said, it’s very simple to have more than nothing.

What the pols ought to do is cordon off the worst neighborhoods, give the locals guns and ammo, wait three weeks (or until the gunfire stops), then arrest the survivors for murder.
Did the call it the Anti Zimmerman Law, The Anti White Hispanic Law or the Saint Skittles Law?
I thought it was the “we just won’t face reality” law.
My wife and I had an early start today--the ADT alarm went off at 3:21 AM with an intrusion detection on the first floor. My wife call 911(and was put on hold), while I retrieved the trusty Mossberg from under the bed, racked in a load of 00 buck, and waited around the corner of our bedroom behind the locked door.
Eventually the police showed up, and the 911 call taker said "The police are at your residence, please meet the officer at the front door" I replied, "Nope! Please have the officer conduct a full perimeter search of the structure to make sure no one gained entry." After that, I did let the officer in and had him conduct a room-by-room search. The officer didn't find any evidence of a break-in, and the ADT tech is coming over tomorrow to check things out.
Oddly enough, I was very calm through the entire incident.

Solution: limit access of law-abiding citizens to firearms.
Makes a Rahm kinda sense.
Which is to say, none at all.
Actually, for Marx, it’s firearms envy. With his record of drug therapy, he’ll never get a permit...gun...range time.
How awful.
did the judge just slap them for their taking civil rights via regulation?
Yeah, more gun control... gang bangers are sure to follow new laws...
