Cuba has said missiles and fighter jets found buried under sacks of sugar on a ship bound for North Korea were being sent to the secretive state to be repaired. The Caribbean nation admitted last night that it owned the military equipment and said it was due to be returned to the island once repairs had been completed. [Snip] The 35 man crew--made up of North Koreans--tried to resist arrest by rioting with the authorities. The ship, which has been identified as the 14,000-ton Chong Chon Gang, was carrying missiles and other arms ´hidden in containers underneath the cargo

and 40’s & 50’s Harley’s too...... :-)
If it's all they can get then it's better than nothing. They currently operate something like 200 Mig-21s and 400 SA-1, 2, and 3 missiles. This is frontline stuff for them.

It's better than HFCS. IT should be used in the New Twinkies.
And of course these stupid pukes would never lie...BULLSHIT. Caught with their pants down around their knees. Hilarious!!
Close, but no cigars.
Can’t say for certain how it is in the East, but much of the sugar in the West comes from sugar beets grown in Southern Alberta and processed in Taber. About 14% of raw sugar in Canada comes from Canadian sugar beets processed in Taber.
As far as cane sugar, industry stats show that 81% of raw cane sugar refined in Canada comes from S. America with 19% coming from Central America. According to a wikipedia article, most of the Cuban sugar industry closed with the dissolution of the USSR, so I doubt that ‘buying sugar in Canada’ does much to support their economy!
I know of little that is imported into Canada from Cuba (other than socialist ideas embraced by the Liberals and Dippers (New Democratic Party)) but would expect a major balance of trade deficit as so many Canadians vacation in Cuba.
Once again in the last month or so, some politician has raised the idea of Trinidad & Tobago joining Canada. This usualy only occurs after a particularly harsh winter! (There is a good reason that Winnipeg is known as ‘Winterpeg’.) Such a merger would certainly help our balance of trade with the Carribean, especially vacations.

Pull the other one.
Because it's what they fly

I read Choom Gang in there.
What confuses me is why they didn’t take a route that would not give a country an (easy) legal basis for searching the ship, say around South Africa or South of South America? It would take longer but would not give people any easy excuse to search the ship.
I was being completely facetious about Canadian sugar coming from Cuba. Apparently they raise enough to send it to N Korea.
My wife is Albertan Canadian (Grande Prairie); and I can say that Cuban cigars and rum (Bacardi) is available there.
Thanks Nachum.
MiG = flying coffin.
Okay, you caught me.
But, in my defense, I’m not actually buying sugar from Canada; I’m buying Cuban cigars from Canada.
I hide the cigars in large crates of sugar to bring them across the border.
And, since Mom always told me it’s a sin to waste food, I’ve been using the sugar in my coffee - after I remove the cigars, of course.
I wasn’t counting on finding a missile, though. At first I thought it was just a very large Churchill which had fallen out of a bundle - - - but then I tried to light it...
