ZIMMERMAN VERDICT, PART 2: THE “UNARMED TEEN” (Massad Ayoob)
Backwoods Home ^ | Tuesday, July 16th, 2013 | Massad Ayoob

It seems that the verdict of a sworn jury in our criminal justice system means little to the haters, who are still screaming that George Zimmerman killed “an unarmed seventeen-year-old.” Given that seventeen is old enough to enlist in the Marine Corps and to be tried as an adult – the Gainesville Sun recently headlined that a “sixteen-year-old man” was to be charged with murder in the selfsame Florida criminal justice system – the age issue doesn’t hold a lot of water when seen through a clear glass.

“Unarmed?” Actually, NO. The history of adjudicating deadly force actions shows that Trayvon Martin was “armed” two or three times over.

First, the haters (like the prosecution) assiduously ignored George Zimmerman’s statement that while Martin was “ground-and-pounding” him, Martin saw Zimmerman’s gun in its now exposed holster, told Zimmerman that he was going to die tonight, and reached for his victim’s pistol.

If I’m your criminal attacker, you don’t have to wait for me to shoot you before you can shoot me to defend your life, and you don’t even need to wait until the gun is in my hand. If I announce my intent to murder you and reach for a gun, I’m bought and paid for right there. And it doesn’t matter whether the gun I’m reaching for is in my holster, or yours. That’s why every year in America, when thugs try to grab a policeman’s gun and are shot, the shootings are ruled justifiable.

I had been wondering what Ayoob was so silent during the entire Zimmerman affair. He wrote one article 1 month after the shooting (GEORGE ZIMMERMAN AND TRAYVON MARTIN: WHAT WE DON’T KNOW), and then nothing.

He explains the reason for his silence in THE ZIMMERMAN VERDICT, PART 1.

Cristian Fernandez was charged in Florida with first degree murder at the age of 12.

Who charged him, you ask?

A prosecutor by the name of . . . Angela Corey.

I don’t always agree with Ayoob, but never ignore his thoughts, comments, observations, prescriptions, and the like.

Funny how nobody in the media seems to remember how another unarmed 17-year-old “child” killed a soccer ref with a single punch to the face a few weeks ago. No, there was no threat to Zimmerman at all.

Not being snarky, but where do you disagree? I watched his YouTube vids and they seem like good info.

I’ve been PRAYING for Ayoob to weigh in on this. He is, IMHO, THE world’s expert on shooting cases.

They also forget about that can of “tea” he had in his hoodie pocket.

Hit someone whose head is on the ground right between the eyes with that can of tea and it’s all over but the crying.

TM was armed he just didn’t get a chance to use it.

Zimmys whole explanation of what happened was in the police supervised video introduced by the procs themselves. Why should Zimmerman take the stand so the weenies could get a chance to twist and trick him into an instance of accidental incrimination. Omera is way to smart to let that happen!

To hear Sharpton tell it, he had a bag of skillets. Imagine getting hit with that.

The truth is this was not a shooting case. This was an assault and battery case with additional charges of attempted murder and hate.

The criminal attacker that chose not to flee as Eric Holder proclaimed was his his duty was Trayvon Martin

Trayvon was not charged because justice had already been served. Trayvon was dead

Yeah, but that "child" was a brown hispanic so he gets a pass.

When someone of Massad Ayoob's qualifications and stature speak, people should listen. I know *I* do, since he is the foremost authority on combat pistol craft alive...

No matter what anyone says to the contrary, it is better to be judged by twelve than carried by six.

Trayvon was not victimized by Zimmerman. He was victimized by the black crime perpetrators of past decades. If he had been following a Chinese man, Zimmerman’s racial attitude could be questioned. If he had not followed a black man, his commitment could be questioned.

Zimmerman was doing a crime watch because it was a crime neighborhood. He could do his job better if he were armed, as regular police are. Blacks have a big crime history. He was following a stranger in the neighborhood. Zimmerman was doing his job. He took risks. Communities should be proud of those who perform crime watch.

Keeping this Zimmerman/Martin issue alive keeps - SHAZAMMMMM - the public from asking about BENGHAZI, FAST AND FURIOUS, BEACONS ON OUR BORDERS WITH MESSAGE WRITTEN IN THREE (3) LANGUAGES FOR HELP, Hurricane Sandy victims....hundreds of issues that need your attention NOT this trial that was settled by a Jury of their peers days ago.....Racists are pushing this as cover for Obama.

Evidently, the defense thought so too.

I've been looking for it, too, because I've spoken with people who said that they were going to wait to choose sides on the issue until they heard what Ayoob had to say. Based on the evidence that I had seen, I was firmly in the "Zimmerman was innocent due to self-defense" camp, but did want to hear what Ayoob had to say.

Well, it sounds like he threw everything he had at Zimmerman just short of that bag of Skittles.

Sharpton? He'd probably get confused and put his hat on it.
