Sen. Lindsey Graham: US should consider boycotting Russian Olympic Games
Fox News ^ | July 17, 2013

Senator Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., has said that the United States should consider a boycott of the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Russia if Moscow decides to grant asylum to NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden.

Sen. Graham told The Hill Tuesday that the Russians' recent actions involving Snowden were “outrageous” and agreed that a boycott should be a possibility when asked.

“I would. I would just send the Russians the most unequivocal signal I could send them,” Graham said. “We certainly haven't reset our relationship with Russia in a positive way. At the end of the day, if they grant this guy asylum it’s a breach of the rule of law as we know it and is a slap in the face to the United States.”

Such a boycott would recall the Olympic boycotts of the 1980s, when President Carter boycotted the Summer Olympics in the Soviet Union over the invasion of Afghanistan, and four years later the Soviets responded by boycotting the Summer Olympics held in Los Angeles.

Yeah... punish the athletes who have trained for years and years to go to the Olympics.

And punish the businesses who have sponsored these athletes and are awaiting their paydays.

And give our potential Olympic medals to the other athletes.

Brilliant!

I’ve been waiting a long time to hear some politician, any politician, with the power to do anything about it, say the first word about protecting Christians in this world. So far the only taker has been Vladimir Putin.

THAT carries a lot of weight for me. Goes right along with realism about sex perverts trying to gain legitimacy.

I think if any idiot stood up today and tried to cancel out participation...would find a massive amount of legal efforts taken by the athletic teams and members. It’s not like it was in the 1970s. I also think that most of the athletic members would just show up and denounce the US as a nation...which is a lousy way of participating, if you ask me.

I would readily agree that someone, even a Democrat....needs to run and beat Graham. Watching him on TV just boggles my mind.

Carter forced the US to boycott the Olympics in Russia during his time. There was a great deal of damage done - all of it suffered by the USA. We were the big losers.

The Olympics were originally designed to be free from the control of politics. During the Cold War the Communist nations played a big role in their nation’s Olympic teams; they along with Carter.

What McFrog on post 14 says is true.
Though the gub mint does not directly finance Olympics they none the less lend ALL KINDS of help to the effort.
That help can be turned off.

This shows what a bubble these buttheads live in. He is all about big government all the time. Anything threatens that and we will crush the goals of people that are uninvolved in this and have worked their whole life towards something.

Putin’s not much for domestic freedoms in Russia, but he runs circles around Team Soetoro when it comes to foreign policy.

Lindsey just likes the word “boycott”, because it makes him think of a boy on a cot.

It’s really hard to find a way to be as dumb as Jimmah, but Graham managed to find a way. Any viable candidates surfacing who can primary this fool?

At least Jimmy’s reasons for the boycott had some merit.

Come on, Lindsey, the real reason is because Russia is against homosexuality.

This is a moronic idea to boycott. Good Grief. True - it hurts the athletes the most, BUT it’s a chain reaction to every sponsor, every company who paid to use the Olympic logo to produce items for sale to promote the Olympics.

Yes..... I remember a furniture store owned by friends, sat with a ton of merchandise - bean bag chairs, little teddy bears all with Olympic logos, to give/sell with furniture purchases. This is a stupid idea and he needs to be OUT of the senate for many reasons more important than this moronic suggestion.

WE NEED better peeps to run our country.

The world's turned upside down hasn't it? Vlad is taking a strong stand against the promulgation of the homosexual lifestyle and standing up for Christianity while in the USofA.... nothing.

Let's give that a think. Russia (USSR) fights Muslim radicals on it's southern border. USA gets on the other side and arms Russia's enemy. Russia cuts her losses and withdraws.

Another chapter in "Afghanistan: Graveyard of Empires." American chapter is still being written.
