SF jewelry slayings tied to price dispute

A 23-year-old man killed two San Francisco jewelry store clerks and critically wounded the shop owner because he believed he had been overcharged when he bought an item a few weeks earlier, prosecutors said Tuesday.

The motive in Friday's slayings in the South of Market area had been a mystery until Barry White Jr. of Antioch appeared in court to face 16 charges, including murder and attempted murder. He did not enter a plea.

Assistant District Attorney Scot Clark said White committed a "cold and deliberate" attack when he returned to Victoga in the Gift Center and Jewelry Mart on Brannan Street to dispute a purchase he made at the end of May.

White believed the item, which was not identified, did not have as many grams of precious metal as advertised, and that he had overpaid by a little less than $300, Clark told Judge Monica Wiley while asking her to hold White without bail.

He said store camera footage showed employees recognizing White and engaging him in conversation, apparently not sensing the danger.

At one point, Clark said, White asked the store's 50-year-old owner, Vic Hung, for change for parking. Hung gave him the money, and White returned soon after, sitting calmly on a chair by the door until the last customer left.

White then approached the counter and spoke to Hung and a clerk, 51-year-old Lina Lim of Daly City. White reached into his pocket, Clark said, drew out a five-shot revolver and fired three times at the owner and once at Lim.

Had all of the Trayvon Martin folks marching in San Francisco last weekend I wonder if the Asian community will be marching this weekend?

"Officers shot him in the head and back, and he later sued Antioch police."

Another one of Al Sharpton's victims.

White was scheduled to go to trial in Contra Costa County in August for allegedly trying to run over a police officer with a car in Antioch in 2009.

Wow, four years from crime to trial? That's some glacial movement. Bet he's going to miss that August court date...

Oh. I see. It was a “price dispute.” Much like the way Washington, D.C. solved it’s rampant series of armed carjackings by reporting them as “ownership disputes.”

That's what Trayvon believed and so do all the people that are upset the Zimmerman was acquitted. What they perceive as the "White man's laws" has triumphed over their core idea of justice.
