“Mr. Martin, a black teenager, was walking to his father’s house in Sanford, Fla., from a nearby convenience store in the early evening when he was spotted by Mr. Zimmerman, a neighborhood-watch volunteer who thought Mr. Martin was suspicious. Mr. Zimmerman, who is Hispanic, called 911 and began following Mr. Martin, leading to a confrontation in which the 29-year-old Mr. Zimmerman shot the teenager.”
......................

A deceitful oversimplified description. He broke off following the kid and was attacked later.

Mr. Zimmerman called the non emergency number to report a suspicious person. When set upon by said suspicious person and pinned to the ground, retreat was impossible so he stood his ground. Not that he had a duty to retreat. So much went wrong for the whole mess regardless of the results. No gun, Mr. Zimmerman would likely be dead or brain damaged. The perp would probably have walked.

leading to a confrontation

Don't ya love the way the media continues to use the vague, nebulous "a confrontation happened" meme? Makes it sound like both parties were equally responsible.

Except that a confrontation didn't just "happen", Trayvon jumped Zimmerman and sucker-punched him square in the face. Trayvon started the violence, and would have continued until his victim was dead - as Trayvon himself verbally promised at the time - had Zimmerman not been fortuitously armed.

THAT's what really happened, Big Media. I realize it's a lot for you guys to accept.

" thought Mr. Martin was suspicious." No he didn't. Zimmerman thought Martin was acting suspiciously. Zimmerman "profiled" Martin's actions, and became suspicious about him. Zimmerman then watched Martin suspiciously. OTOH, Martin was suspicious of Zimmerman later.
