The Department of Homeland Security has warned its employees that the government may penalize them for opening a Washington Post article containing a classified slide that shows how the National Security Agency eavesdrops on international communications.
An internal memo from DHS headquarters told workers on Friday that viewing the document from an unclassified government workstation could lead to administrative or legal action. You may be violating your non-disclosure agreement in which you sign that you will protect classified national security information, the communication said.
The memo said workers who view the article through an unclassified workstation should report the incident as a classified data spillage.
The NSA is a Defense Department agency, meaning it does not fall under the jurisdiction of Homeland Security. It was not immediately clear whether all federal agencies released similar warnings to their employees. . .

Liberals are good at sticking their heads in the sand...
Did armed DHS agents run out and follow all the newspaper delivery trucks to pick up all the hard copies too?
Same as burning an unapproved Book, just in modern times.
The reasons that you describe are inherently illogical and, if anything, perpetuate an illusion of security. In computer security, if something COULD have been accessed, it MUST be assumed that it HAS ALREADY been accessed, and therefore, no longer secure.
I am sure none of them have the Internet at home. :)
Or the library.
DSS sent out emails to contractors saying individuals carrying clearances were not allowed to access classified information from contractor’s equipment that were posted on news site such as the Guardian. We have been told that wikileaks was off limits on work or home computers.
If you carry a clearance you not allowed to access classified information if you do not have a need to know.
I know exactly what you are saying because I have been told the same.
He has bupkis.
I suspect it has to do with hypertext links to malicious sites.
Also do not think of the color red nor think of any music by ABBA.
“His not dumping it all is a good strategy. The govt really doesnt know how much or how little he has. It is a sort of insurance policy.”
... buckwheat’s birth certificate ?
Actually all 14 intelligence agencies now fall under DHS, as does the National Guard, FEMA, Coast Guard, Secret Service, TSA, Civil Air Patrol, and parts of the DoD.
What is it that the D.H.S. is trying to hide? The internet is like reading the New York times wthout the filters.
Is the D.H.S. saying their employees have no first amendmant right to read what they wish?
this communist government is in need of a thourough cleaning.
If you have already read it, you must unread it and unremember it, at least three times. It will be doubleplusungood for you if you do not! /s;)
Un-derstand. LOL!
Coming next,” Don’t read anything that is not approved by the mac daddy administrate or you will be shoot at sunrise”.
Classic ad.
It is theater of the absurd...but this is nothing new. The government has this ridiculous tactic any time classified documents are leaked to the media and then published by the media.
The thought was, "just because something was leaked to the media doesn't mean that it was automatically declassified." I remember this warning being given to us all the way back to Desert Storm...just because something classified was stated on NBC News didn't mean that it became declassified.
Sorry.
So, when they leave work they can read it at home? Is it in a newsstand copy?
