Obamacare: Costing 58,000 Californians Their Health Insurance
Freedom Outpost ^ | July 15, 2013 | Tim Brown

Remember when Barack Obama stood before the American people and said “if you like your healthcare plan, you can keep your healthcare plan”? Well, like everything else that comes out of his mouth that was a lie. Fifty-eight thousand Californians are about to learn that the hard way.

Apparently two of the companies that offer individual coverage in California have decided they are pulling out of the market next year, once the individual mandate takes effect.

The Los Angeles Times reports:

The nation’s largest health insurer, UnitedHealth Group Inc., is leaving California’s individual health insurance market, the second major company to exit in advance of major changes under the Affordable Care Act.

UnitedHealth said it had notified state regulators that it would leave the state’s individual market at year-end and force about 8,000 customers to find new coverage. Last month, Aetna Inc., the nation’s third-largest health insurer, made a similar move affecting about 50,000 existing policyholders.

Both companies will keep a major presence in California, focusing instead on large and small employers. They both have relatively small shares in the market in California. United Health has about 2 percent of the market and Aetna has about 5 percent. Both companies will be providing coverage in the group market, mainly through employers.

“The business model of health insurance is fundamentally changing and some companies are willing and able to adapt,” Georgetown University professor Sabrina Corlette told the Times. “Given the limited market share those carriers had, UnitedHealth and Aetna have made the calculation that it required too much of an investment to change their strategy in California.”

Beginning January 1, 2014, “the federal healthcare law forces insurers to accept all individual applicants regardless of their medical history and provide a comprehensive set of benefits with limits on patients’ out-of-pocket spending.”

this is not good news for many Californians and since this will span more states than California, we can rest assured this will impact many Americans in the coming year and we have Barack Obama and the Democrats in Congress to thank for it.

Yea! I’m sure they’d vote for him all over again, every one!

And yet, like Pavlov dogs, they’ll vote for him or any other Dem who promises them “free,” “universal” healthcare or other government benes. Its the snake oil that always works to get votes — the government will take care of your major life expenses and make “the rich” pay for it. The reality is that the system breaks down and people end up with less insurance, but no one ever learns.

It’s good that California is getting what they voted or. I am hapy for them.

Keep voting for Nancy Pelosi. Feinstein and Boxer, The pig man, baba Waters see how it turns out.

I feel a bit sorry for the Conservative Californians who are stuck there with this mess, but they should be working hard to show the others what horrible mistakes they have made.

I’m with you.California and Illinois are in a race to bankruptcy, since only the first state or two will get federal bailout money.

I agree. Californians need to suffer. Maybe, then, they will, stop their cultural and voting madness.

As a Californian, I do not disagree with your sentiments. I feel like one of those commanders in Viet Nam who, being overrun, request for artillery on their own position. Duck and cover! Or rather, put you head between your legs and kiss yer arse good-bye!

You assholes don’t care about us conservatives in this state? Been here my whole life. The freaking libs have taken over this state because they outnumber us. It’s as simple as that. If there was anything I could do to change it I would. FU both!

" If you like your current insurance , you can keep it."

What a lying sack of . . .

Pelosi said we needed to pass the law to see what was in it. She is getting her wish. We see daily more and more what was in it.
